Hey all-
We have great snow in Killington. For all you folks out there who are "between jobs" come on up and relax a bit. I mean this with good intentions because I have read many, many threads of layoffs ect. and I feel for ya man! If you don't ski just gather up a few that do and just hang out. There is nothing like 25-30 degree air to clear your head a bit. I just ask that you do eventually go home and not decide to move here, housing prices are tough enough as is!

C'mon GP. November is knocking on the door. We had a couple inches of snow last week!

I tuned up the skis and board last weekend. Ready to hit it next weekend....

I'm sorry to say, I put away all of the CT/Dweb videos and took out the powder, etc. videos.

Ok, road trip to Vermont. Damn, I just came back from there a few weeks ago. Now I'll just have to go up again....

Although my wife and I are trying to figure out how to move up there. But don't worry snowman, we'll be buying an old farm and not one of those awful McMansions or condos that are popping up all over the place up there.

Zak-
Cool, preserve one for me. There does seem to be a race to see who can build the largest big box around here. In some areas it's funny to see them compete for the "view" of the lake ect. What a joke. Many times it's 5000-7000 square feet for 2 adults and 1 kid, give me a break! For me I rather have 1700-2000 square feet of quality and low heating bills.

GP-If you like music check out Higher Ground in Winooski, it's near St. Mike's College. While you are there visit "Papa Frank's" pizza, absolutely the best pie around!

Cheers, Snowman

Snow,

THey are doing basically the same thing down here in Bucks County, PA. Raping the land for UGLY cookie cutter houses. The quality is awful, the landscaping is a joke, and they are paying off the township officials so they can basically break every zoning law and do what they want. I lvoe the 5000+ sq ft houses on less than 1/4 acre that are going for 500,000+. It use to be all farms around here, but now it's a giant suburbia, with schools, strip malls, and home depots everywhere! Makes me sick.

I'm with you, give me an old, or new, well designed and well built <2000 sq.ft. house. One of these days we'll move up to VT, NH, or ME someday and raise sheep!

you are sick Zak. stay away from them sheep. you mean you don't like those Toll Brother houses there. haha. yeah it was crazy there. hell i use to live in Bucks Co. too many years ago. liked it, but i am not sure i could afford to live there. would have to be some kind of man-whore of something. i lived above some cheezy angel store in Newtown years ago just in front of Isaac Newtons and paid mucho for a dinky place there.
i at least want to own a place in VT some day. even if it is a summer/winter house.
very nice up there........people, seasons and the scenery. just dig it man. why did i leave? haha. oh well i can always go back and work for da man.

Zak-
I presently own a farmhouse reproduction and it's often mistaken as being "old" because of the style, red tin roof and attention to detail. The only hint of it being new is the poured foundation. Someday I hope to finish that off in real fieldstone or another natural material. I absolutely love my house and especially working on it. It's funny your description of Bucks County is an almost mirror image of what's happening here in Chittenden County VT. It's very sad indeed. I just don't understand why people want such large houses, especially in a cold climate with the cost to heat ect. We have builders who are building huge houses with 2x4 framing and they actually shake when you shut the front door hard. However people are lining up to buy them and sometimes paying more than the asking price. It seems to be prevelant throughtout the country though. I have yet to find the common denominator that can explain this type of building or buying.

GP-
I second your "Sneakers" breakfast vote. Unfortunately it's been a while since I've been there. Having kids will do that to you. Did you once post you rode MTB at the Fort or am I mistaken? If so and it's been a while since you've ridden in this area, I hate to tell you but it's only gotten better. The trails now are almost unlimited. You mentioned going to Stowe?. I rode some of the best trails ever in Waterbury a few weeks ago. I've raced the World Cup course at Mt. Snow and Mt. Saint Anne years ago and these are better. They are justly named, "The Blair Witch Project", unreal stuff, very technical. If you don't have 3-4 inches up front or full-sus you will want it after you ride these. Let me know if you want directions or ask any tatooed, multi-pierced freerider at the local bike shop.

Haven't you guys gone to Penny Cluse yet (in the old Ben and Jerry's)? That place is better than Sneakers.

The good riding is up in East Burke. I was up there a few weeks ago. Very tight singletrack, lot's of good hills. Put in 45 miles in a day. If I had more energy in me, I would have kept going.

David-
Yes Burke is awesome riding. I've always wondered if there are any "Rover Friendly" trails up that way? You up there presently?

Penny Cluse? what old ben and jerry's. the original was the parking lot across from the old bank in Burlington. why have i heard of Penny Cluse? damn. are you talking about Winooski? now i am confused.
i use to ride up there snowman, but not competitivly. use to ride the trails off 89 there at Catamount and also around some of the trails in and around Winooski. and of course up at Stowe and Smuggs. but my favorite was Mt. Snow during the Brew Fest/NORBA Nationals. oh those were the days. haha.
but now is ski season and currently i am making reservations at Mount Tremblant for the Christmas holiday. i am sure i will make it to Stowe/Smuggs at some point. like both those mountains. and i really like hitting The Shed for a few Mt. Ales. mmmm. was up there this summer for the Brew Fest in Burlington. always a yearly homage for sure.

TPH - Not up in Burke presently, but wish I was. I bet their are trails there, it's a matter of finding them. I saw tons of logging roads, and I'm sure you would have no problem finding open ones, etc.

GP - Nah, not the original. Quit dating yourself (LOL). Downtown, next to the B-sides. Across from the former "ghetto shopper", no Walgreens. It's this ill-coneived, multi floor funky building. B&J's used it for many years while I was in school there, just before they made the move to church st.

i remember now. yeah.......i have been there many times. my mind was just failing. i miss that ghetto mart. haha. my old office did the new site across the street from the gas station there. the old parking lot next to mailboxes etc.
planet hollywood is gone to right? i use to be in love with some tall girl that worked there. ahhhhhhh young love.

David Marchand (Dmarchand)

Nah, Hollywood, or something similar to it (new name perhaps) is still there.

I think I dated that tall girl (no, really). We had a tall chic on the SMC b-ball team that worked there (and then at the dress shop on Church), I dated her for a while. Amazon love...

oh yeah, Amazon love. Doesn't get much better than that!

I couldn't get over all the babage in that city. I guess with all the schools around it, there is a never ending supply of "scenery"

Although I was a bit dissapointed with trying to find a non-bar resturaunt. everywhere we went was filled with wasted college kids, and tons of smoke.

ah you mean bars like What Ales You and Rasputen's? haha.
you dated her David? nice. she seemed very quiet and nice. never talked to her. just saw her on church street all the time. i worked on across the street from the VT Pub and Brewery in the old bank building.

I find it absolutely amazing that no one has mentioned "Nector's" and his famous fries with gravy! It was essential to only eat them after 1:00 a.m., or were you guys already home by then?

haha. yeah Nectars was a good spot. the 'walk up' window was nice. i believe it was Kountry Kart David. haha. i was there at least 2 times a week for lunch. but then again i had a thing for one of the girls that worked at the Klinger's shed there at the end of church street too. big fan of Halverson's too during lunch. and how can you forget about Mr. Mikes Pizza. slices as big as your head.
ever have a Guinness shake at the VT Pub and Brewery?

David Marchand (Dmarchand)

Hmm. Never had the Guinness shake. But since I have some clients in Burlington, I'll have to make a business trip out of it (all for a Guinness shake...ha.).

Manhattan pizza.

You know, I think that town has the best eating, per square block than any city or town I've ever been to over the years. It still amazes me. Too bad the Flynn shut down the Chance. I worked there for 3 years during college. That was a great bar on Irish Happy Hour nights.

yeah lots of good food there....NECI, Sweet tomatos, Ice House, etc.
bet you were a big fan of the Shanty!! haha.

I'm with GP. Stowe is my favorite. As soon as they are open, I say we have a little rally. That way I can log some time at the Shed as well....

To bad you can't drive the notch in the winter...

Thats a plan Greg! Let's hit it. I love VT, and will drive up there anytime. I'd loev to do some snow trekking, and a little skiing.

yeah you can always slap on some snow shoes and hike the road. haha. but you can ski from Smuggs to Stowe though. but you have to end up at the Shed. Smuggs does not have much to speak of for bars. and then another good place for dinner in Stowe is Gracie's. and of course later on in the night heading over to the Rusty Nail. hanging out with all the snobby Massholes is always good fun!! haha.
yeah i am game. josh....another dwebber from Boston would be up for it to i am sure. he has snowmobiles too!! :)

Well I bought my season pass to Snowbird last week and had the skis tuned about a month ago. But looking for powder in VT? Try out here in UT, just bring some real beer with you.
