Yes, I have heard of STS9, I have some of their music. Great band. They are from Athens,GA, but hang on the left coast. I beleive there is a site that webcasts STS9 24/7. If you like them, have you heard The New Deal, three guys from Canada in the same genre - live ( w/ drums, bass guitar, and keys) progressive dance. TND is a bit more break beat style, while I would describe STS9 as trance-like with jamming. I have yet to see STS9, but wouldn't hesitate if they came near me.

I am big Phish phan first and foremost, but I haven't heard anything from Page's band, except a few tracks from their website. The only STS9 I have is from my first introduction to the band, Seasons 01, which I bought on a rec from a friend having not heard anything before. So I am a big STS9 newbie. Ahh, there are so many good bands traveling around now it seems, so much good music out there. Maybe it was the Phish hiatus that brought everyone out, or maybe it just made me look around, hahaha.

I like lots of mellow and acoustic music. Bebo Norman, John Mayer, James Taylor and a little country like Rascal flatts, Phil Vasser.

John Mayer, Dave Mathews, The Who, Nelly, Dixie Chicks, The Smiths, The Clash, David Bowie. I do tend to like British bands, Oasis, Radio Head, Travis. I listen to almost everything, but the Dead and Jam music. During college, my apartment was invaded by dead lovin' pot heads who wanted to mooch food. I got burnt out on the dead. Don't mean to pick a fight.

If anyone likes the Heavy stuff, wait till you hear Audio Slave. It's the guys from Rage Against the Machine and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden. Blew me away.

-John

PS - Don't download (it's illegal and hurts the artist), go and buy that $20 CD. Rover's don't grown on trees you know.

(Can't believe I put Dixie Chicks and the Smiths in the same sentence!)

Seven Nations!?!!

:)

7N, Mackeel, Kilt, SlainteMath, Clandestine, Enter the Haggis, Celtic Soul, Tannahill Weavers, and bunches of others....

Pink Floyd and LedZep are the mainstays, Clapton's good.... Police, Allman Bros, GnR, REM... then, actually, Tori Amos, & Jewel.... Just got the Bare Naked Ladies' greatest hits CD, it's a good overview....

I'll listen to about whatever.... rock, bluegrass, blues, folk, celtic.....

FWIW...

-L

PS! Dead's good.... I don't collect shows, haven't been to any, but have always enjoyed hanging out listening to their stuff.... Actually had a shirt of their's on under my suit when I got married.....

lol.... We've seen 'em live BUNCHES of times... at RU, many times at Grandfather Mountain, at ETSU, wherever we can find them. Same w/ Clandestine, but we've seen them more, caught them also at Loch Norman and at Gatlinburg and in Abingdon at the Highlands Festival... Newer 7N is great, but I like the older stuff w/Neil a little better.... Not knocking Scott at all, though! And, I like that they added a fiddler in when they brought in Dan. Oh, Neil was at GMHG this year, good to see him again...

Cullin's okay, but wasn't as good as Mackeel... I think that there's only one member that made the switch, if that... Kilt broke up too, just after Fleur from Mackeel had joined up.... BIG BUMMER! Oh, and Clandestine's last gig is coming up, in February , I think.... heartbreaking....

Let's see... there's also Bad Haggis (talented, but not my favorite), Wolfstone, Great Big Sea, and others I can't just think of right now...

Bagpipes rock!

:)

i like all the 7N stuff, but the nbew album is disappointing in that they got away from the traditional stuff. definitely some good sonegs on there though. The Factory was a great album. i've seen them many times, but i never got to see them live with Neil. :( i'd love to make it to the GMHG. i just don't have the time or anyone to go with anymore.
i've not actually heard Cuillin, just that when MacKeel broke up, that they got a member or 2. i didn't know Fleur had joined up with another band. she's amazing. i saw MacKeel at the Alexandira Highland Games in '99. they were awesome. why is Clandestine breaking up?

i gotta agree, BAGPIPES ROCK!!!!! (yes, i'm Scottish)

Factory was good, but Old Ground is still my favorite, with Big Dog and the Pictou Sessions tied for second I suppose....
Second year of RU's Homecoming Highland Festival, 7N was there (in the Neil days :)), where we first saw them; Mackeel came there for the next two years in a row.... that's where we learned about them, was instantly hooked. Just before the second time, their singer left, since he was getting married and getting a real job, so they got another singer. I was apprehensive, but he was really good, too.... Anyway, they were going to put out another album, but, kinda went their ways, and the label picked up Cullin to replace them. We saw Cullin at GFMH, like I said, they're okay, but we didn't buy their CD.
After Mackeel split up, though, Kilt came to RU's games for the next two years, and were great.... awesome band, also from Nova Scotia... a Cape Breton band.... kinda like BNL with a fiddler. Well, Kilt's guitarist and the fiddler decided to do other things, so Fleur was going to become the fiddler for awhile, but, Kilt ended up splitting up over Canadian taxes before the 2nd version could really get going. It was a bummer... I did hear that Fleur and Randy MacDonald (also of Kilt) got married, though... Hopefully, they'll have a project of some sort before long. But, if you haven't heard Kilt, I'd suggest looking for their CDs if you can find 'em, they're rich....
Anyway, Enter the Haggis then started coming to RU, have been there the past two years now.

Clandestine just decided that they've gone as far as they can in that format. They each are just doing other things now... Jen's got a solo career, EJ's got a CD or two out now, so, there's just wrapping up this chapter of their lives.... I've got an email from Jen, where she said:
To answer a couple of the questions that have come in the emails - it's not due to personality clashes, we all love each other very much. It's not boredom, irritation, bad Denny's, too much Denny's, or any combination thereof. None of us is running for president or governor, none of us is going to Katmandu or a Tibetan retreat. None of us has been secretly signed by a major rock label to be a backup singer for Cheryl Crow. It's not a publicity stunt. (Sorry, I'm just trying to be funny... Emily, where did you put the funny? Durn, can't find it...) It's just time to go a different way, and who knows what's around the corner... OK then, back to work, and hope to see you all soon!
