Not much else to say. Be warned that there is nudity involved so if you are a minor don't look. If you are easily offended, don't look. I thought that I just had to share this though as I know many will enjoy it.

Well Rob,

I live on the coast of NC; so that puts me an estimated 7-8 hours from your end of the planet. However, I am planning a 7 day trip for April '03 to explore the Smokey National Forest. While out there, I was hoping to meet up with Leslie Bright as well.

Speaking of, was that CD helpful at all, or was I heading in a completely wrong direction with what you wanted? I can look for more stuff too... just point me towards what you want, and I'll hunt for it for ya....

We'll at least meet up for dinner or something.... I don't know if I can wrangle the wife's Disco from her or not, lol.... Uwharrie Safari will be in April, too, just something else to keep in mind.....

:)

Phillip,

My BS is in straight-laced geology, my MS is in environmental and engineering geosciences. I did a year towards a PhD in Appalachian tectonics, but finally came to the conclusion that I couldn't afford to be in school anymore, not and keep my family fed at the same time. Maybe someday, I'll continue w/ it, just for my own personal edification, but not anytime in the immediate future.

A PhD is essential if you want to be tenured as a professor at a university. With my MS, I've taught as an adjunct at community colleges before.

In industry, a MS is "THE" working degree... a BS will get you a job as a technician, and a PhD is sometimes regarded as overkill... a MS means that you're competent and capable, w/o being pretentious. In some jobs, it's okay to have the PhD, such as if you're an independent consultant (though several that I know don't advertise that they're PhD's, they just list themselves as PGs (Professional Geologists)). If you work for the government, the PhD won't hurt there, either, but it doesn't necessarily help either, unless you want to be a State Geologist (not a geologist working for the state, but the head of a state's geological division).

My suggestion to everyone has become: get a MS. If you already have a BS, you can build off of it to get the MS, maybe need some make-up classes. But once you have the MS, you're hireable.

IMHO, FWIW.....

I made a desktop for the missus with WW photos - she wasn't as impressed as I was with their spartan use of fabric.
