Well, traveling once again for work in my rental car of choice...Pontiac Grand Am...and I was hit from behind by a Chevy Pickup at 60mph. I managed to stop in time to avoid the Jeep Wrangler in front of me, but the ol' chevy man didn't. Needless to say, cops and paramedics came, strapped me to a board, put me in a neck collar and loaded me up into the ambulance. And as I was talking to the guy riding in the back...i clarified that it was a rental and I wasn't sure what would happen having totalled a car that wasn't mine. He asked what I drive...I said Land Rover Discovery...he said "Oh you probably would have been a lot better off in that!" GEE THANKS! Something I could figure out from the neck and back pain! But atleast my baby wasn't injured and Enterprise can just get me another car!

So be careful everyone and enjoy being safe in your Rovers!

Susannah! Sorry to hear about that. Man, since you're OK, I'm glad it wasn't your disco!
Hope you heal well and quickly. Work all the angles right and you may be able to buy all kinds of accessories for the Disco!
Keep in touch about the brushguard.

Damn, that sucks. I was going fishing at 5:00 AM this morning but never made it to the river because we hit a deer. I wish we were in my truck with the ARB, my friend's Cherokee help up well structurally but it busted the radiator leaving us waiting for the tow truck instead of catching browns.

Sus - Glad to hear you were OK. Despite all the concerns regarding rollovers, I can tell you from experience that the patients I see in the ER involved in accidents from most SUVs (not too many LR in this town) do substantially better than those in the passenger cars. Yet another reason to love "the tank". Thankfully you or your family weren't hurt.

Carter = whereabouts are you headed for browns this time of year?

Jason, the Little Red River in (tailrace of Greers Ferry Lake) in Arkansas. AKA- the home of the current world record brown. The spawning run is on so they are moving up on the shoals in good numbers -don't worry we arn't targeting the active spawners.

Oi!

I was cringing as reading that.... reminding me of Laura calling me telling me she was rear-ended on the Interstate.....

Hope you're doing okay.... don't sign away anything, hope you have both good doctors and an attorney you can trust...

Good luck!

Dayum Sus, that well and TRULY sucks! Glad to hear you're O.k., but I'm with the boys here: Don't sign a thing and be VERY careful when you start to feel a little better. Often when you're not thinking about your recent incident you'll move a little too fast and whiplash yourself. So, go slow, both physically and legally.

Hey Sus, glad you're okay. definitely take it easy, somtimes an injury to the neck won't show up right away. i was rear-ened in high school and my neck wasn't sore till the day after.

To all-
When you sit down to pay the monthly bills please remember to also donate a small portion to your local volunteer rescue squad. Around this time of year they will be responding to more accidents and have increased costs. 2 years ago I had three 911 calls to my house. My local rescue squad was there for my family and they were greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone! I'm not sure what will happen with legal action...he wasn't charged b/c supposedly there was a car that cut between him and me and blocked his view. Another car stopped to verify that account. I dictated a statement exactly as I think it happened (which did not involved any 'wild driving' cars!) and I will go from here. The accident was last Friday, so I am healing slowly, but I'm concerned about what is going to happen once I run out of meds! :)

Unfortunately duty calls and I have to drive home tomorrow, then on to Knoxville, TN on Sunday. That's going to hurt!

And snowman, I defintely agree to your 'plug' for the volunteer groups. A young man in a car with NJ plates saw my accident and stopped...he said once he saw the back of the car he knew someone needed help (!!). He is a volunteer firefighter and he got in the backseat of my car and held my neck until the paramedics arrived...talking to me and calming me down. He was wonderful and unfortunately I didn't get to thank him. But it really is people like that that make a difference. I guess I can't say I owe my life to him, but I am certainly grateful for his help!

Thanks for all your kind wishes...I'm sure I'll be ready for off roading again soon (although I might need a neck brace for that! :))...hey, there are less cars on the trails anyway and you certainly can't go 60mph!

Sus, sorry about your incident and glad to hear your OK. This didn't happen by any chance while you were in Va Beach did it? Sounds like something that happens here all the time. Add a little rain and people forget how to drive. Next time your in town, let me know and I'll give you some contact info in case you need a fellow rover friend to call.

Sus,

Sorry for posting this here, but on another thread I can't seem to locate, you asked what kinds of horses I have. I currently own twelve horses and ponies. Here's the run-down:

Two full Arabians
One 3/4 Arabian
One Welsh Mountian pony
One Morgan
One Standardbred
One solid chestnut registered Paint
Two Quarter Horses
Two Thoroughbreds
One Arab/Quarter horse cross pony

They are chosen for their saneness, soundness and willingness to work with people learning. As you can tell from the diversity, it's all about how they behave rather than from whence they are descended. I have favorite breeds and types, but that plays a smaller role when selecting horses for my school.

Now, keep healing and take it slowly, ESPECIALLY when you start to feel better!

Karen :)

Karen,
that sounds like quite a herd! I've never had any experience with Standardbreds, but I've probably had one of each of the others. My favorite being the Welsh pony!!! :) I was remarking to my family that I have been in more pain from falling/being bucked off a horse than this car wreck...but atleast I was having fun at the time of those incidents! Except for the time I was rolled over...
Oh, and I couldn't find the thread where I asked that question either! LOL
Have fun and give them each a kiss on the nose for me...I miss horses so much. Not like I could ride right now anyway!

Eric-Clydesdales are fun, but unless you plan on pulling the Budweiser wagon with them...you should look at something smaller or stick to the Rovers! ;)

Na, I'm a big fat guy, I need a horse that can carry some weight. :) Though I would like one I would have no where to keep it much less to ride it without driving 2 or 3 hours. Well except for Great Falls Park. I couldn't afford it either. I have enough things that I'm throwing money away on now as it is. I don't need another one.

Eric, life is short, throw your money away in as many ways as possible.

Let's see, I have horses, CHECK!, A Rover, CHECK! An expensive ebay habit, CHECK! I'm sure there are a few other things I'm psychologically blocking out right now.....

Sus,

The Standardbred is the only one I've ever owned. He's really nice for my usage, but in general they don't impress me much. I sure didn't go in search of one, but this guy popped up a few years back and he's been great. He walks, trots, canters AND paces. Learned to jump literally in one HOUR one Tuesday night, too, so a pretty quick study. I love my guys, they are truly priceless. Steady, honest and all pretty talented, too. I've got a really exceptional group of partners, and I'm not ashamed to say it!

Karen, proud horse mother :)

Oh, and Sus, I have to agree, the worst whiplash I ever had appeared four days after my Westphalian bucked me into the dirt. Like I said, beware when you begin to feel better. I turned to answer the phone, and WHAMMO! It was a lot worse than the couple of car wrecks I've been in. He was typical German, talented and temperamental. When he got pissed, whoa-doggies. He's been dead ten years, but I have one shin that still hurts in cold weather. Reminds me of that same wreck because he flipped me into the safety wall where I smashed my shin before I hit the ground. Damned bugger, how I loved that horse......god, I miss him.

Heather,

Let me see if I can rustle up some decent pics. I'm afraid the paint will disappoint you. He's registered, but he's a solid chestnut. He has a few paint traits, but pretty much is one of my many chestnuts with white blazes and socks. Handsome horse, just not what you probably are thinking of.

KJ, I know you said he was solid but I don't care. If you have any pics of your other horses post them too. I used to have a welsh arabian pony, he had four white socks and a thick white blaze,,, his name was Fury. The name suited him well and he was a lot of fun. I miss him a lot!!

When Kyle and I were in Wyoming, we stopped at a gas station and there was a horse trailer parked at the pump. I of course asked the people if I could pet their horses. The people were real nice and so were the horses. The woman gave me a flier for "Dry Cody" her bay stallion who was in the trailer. Their website is www.doubledmranch.com. He was incredibly beautiful!

Sorry I'm late to cut in,

Susannah, I sincerely hope you are well. Sometimes unavoidable things happen to the best of us, however I'd definately rather they didn't. I can relate to some of your plight, and wish you a speedy recovery.

May you heal well and fast,

Kennith
