At http://www.vwvortex.com/ This is amusing: "Personally I'm a car guy and don't have a tremendous amount of experience off-roading, so when I was instructed by an engineer to descend a 45 degree slope into a pit without touching the brakes you can imagine some amount of hesitation on my part. It turns out that the Touareg more than makes up for that lack of knowledge. For the most part we were in 4-wheel drive low on both the V10 TDI and the V6. Probably the most interesting test was entering into a ditch at an obscene angle and dropping the front right tire that was just previously hanging freely down into the mud. We then had to crawl around the side of a 40 degree angled pit that led onto a pyramid that has an approach of 45 degrees or so. All this may sound fairly tame, but looks quite precarious when you see others doing it. " I also posted a comment by Ferdinand Porsche in the Defender Forum re: Porsche Cayenne |

I'd find one of these awfully tempting if I didn't have my 5spd Land Rover, and if VW was offering a manual transmission in US-spec Touaregs. My nephew works for VW in Germany but he can only get me great deals on Euro-spec vehicles so there'd be no cost-effective way for me to import one to the US. Oh well. |
