I was just informed last night from my wife that our son, 8, wants one of those motorized scooters for Christmas. So who do I turn to? D-web. The best people around.

So here's the question. I think were going to go with the battery powered one, less likely to have a serious accident than the motorized one. Anyways, does anyone know of a good, reliable place with reasonable prices to get one. I'm completely in the dark.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Greg-
If I may offer the following. My 8-year old son has broken 2-3 bike helmets in crashes on his bmx and mountain bike. IMHO I would get a skate or bmx/freestyle type of helmet for a scooter, not a bike helmet. I believe they are tougher, fit better and offer better protection. Also my son thinks the skate helmets are "cooler" because it has more spots for stickers!

80% of the time most bike helmets I see on kids are not fitted properly. I worked in the cycling industry and have fitted hundreds of helmets on little ones. Their opinion of what's a good fit is generally wrong safety wise. I don't mean to preach but my own helmet has saved me from major injury twice so I am a fan of helmets. Have fun and keep the shiney side up!

I've had it bookmarked for a while, actually I think someone else might have posted it here a while back.

I grew up without the aid of a helmet, as I'm sure most of you did, I think we are all getting a little overprotective. The kids will learn on their own what they can or can't do the first couple of hundred times they fall.

As for scooters, get him or her one of the old scholl they actually have to push with their own legs. Those GoPeds are way too much for an 8 year old to handle.

My point of veiw, homever askew,
Paul

Paul-
I do understand your reasoning as I also grew up not wearing a helmet. However would you not agree that today's toys are a bit faster than the old school stuff, thus increasing the damage potential? My background is in MTB racing and I never would have developed my skills without a helmet, especially in DH runs and technical drops ect. Helmets allowed me to stretch my limits a bit, which increased my experience on the "edge". That made me a better rider. IMHO for developing the skills and increasing the fun factor on any skateboard, scooter, bike ect. proper protection is key so you can get up and do it again the next morning. I was'nt meaning to be a killjoy but I am seriously into the above and love to encourage others to join the fun!

I always wear a helmet when I mountain bike and it has saved my life so many times I have lost count but I will admit that all the dumb stunts I pulled in my childhood such as standing up on the seat, ramping over various obstacles, jumping off at high speeds, and running into various obstacles were all done without an ounce of protective equipment. I just count myself extremely lucky and thank god that shows Jackass wasn't around to give me any better ideas, ohhhh the stuff I could have done.

I appreciate everyones input thus far, but unfortunantly it doesn't answer the question at hand. Does anyone know where I can find one of these, as one person calls it, GoPed's, at a good price??

I figured that at least one person could help me out, surely I haven't stumped the D-Web crowd have I?

Im pretty sure some kind of motor could be attached to the "ghetto scooter" relatively easily. :)

But seriously, a google search for "motorized scooters" brings up quite a few vendors, something tells me "the sharper image" probablly has some too but if you go that route stock up on the lube.
