okay, i sent out a plea before, but it's getting to be dire mow. i currently live and work in Lynchburg, VA. i desperately need out of here for just about every reason you can imagine. my job search is going poorly so far and i was hoping maybe i could find some connections here. i'm a graduate architect and i'm interested to relocating to Raleigh, NC (i'd live with a friend in Cary), somewhere in Norhtern Virginia, or Seattle, WA. i know that's a wierd spectrum, but thos places would be best as i have friends and such to help me get on my feet. if anyone is in these areas and can help, let me know. i'd even consoder jobs outside my field depending on pay and what the job is. i know this is a long shot, but thanks in advance.

Aaron:
I've either lived or spent considerable time in all of those places you mention. They all have many great things to offer and are generally stimulating and vibrant areas. But....they're crowded as hell and getting more crowded every day. Don't limit your options, you're young, single, no debt....this is freedom in today's world. Focus on what makes you happy and what you really want to do, be willing to take risks, don't hunt it, it will come to you.

Sorry to sound preachy, but I was once there, even got the tote bag to prove it.

mike - no debt? i own a Rover dude, i think you're off the mark there. ;) point is, i have a way to get started in those areas, which is something i need. and honestly, there aren't many areas that i'm really interested in. i appreciate the advice, but i have thought about it from every angle.

What? Seattle, crowded? What're you talking about? Kidding of course. Lived hear most of my life (minus a 7 years in CA, don't hold it against me). Wish I could help you with your career of choice. Unfortunately jobs are tight everywhere. My co. was in the news over the weekend regarding layoffs. Can't wait to see my staff on tomorrow...

Good luck! If you make it to the NW let everyone know.

Aaron, Seattle has I think the second worst unemployment in the nation. And I think we are also second worst with traffic (slipped out of number one last year damn it!!)
That warning in place, I don't know many in the "I like to do drawerings" category to help you out.
Here are some listing from the Times/PI

good luck!

I know this is not in your specified areas of employement, but our company is almost always hiring architects, especially ones with Graduate degrees. We're in Princeton, NJ. If you feel like taking a look up here, shot me off an email.
you can see our website at:

I work for a large wireless company with crappy marketing. The term "death star" should narrow it down for you.

I'm your typical IT Middle Management Geek.
