When I bought my Discovery I decided to sell my '68 BMW 2002 track car. With a young family and limited time to finish the paint/body work and the extra $$$ needed to race it the timing was just not right. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I still had that need for speed so I picked this up over the weekend.

toy2

Stupid me for buying now when it's cold and wet. Waiting until spring is going to kill me...

For those local, want to meet at the track some day and play before/after wheeling?

How fast will that thing go?

Depends on the gearing. I'm told with the way it is geared now it'll do 75mph. I also got a stack of gears with the kart. It's a 125cc Rotax motor. I work with a few guys who have 125cc shifter karts (this is not a shifter) that'll do 100+. Crazy stuff.

The real crazy part is it will do fater lap times on the road course than my BMW did.

I had a 24' Chaparral 238 Signature Series when I lived in Virgina Beach. Sold when I moved to Albany for a Pop Up camper! Not quite as sexy, but suites the 3 and 5 yr old ankle biters.

Had 88RRC sold for 99D2. Still waiting for delievery.

John Deere garden tractor, with 16hp Kohler, varoom!

Very cool runabout Zak, I see many older boats up here on Lake George.

Todd, on the go cart,is that the gas tank between your legs....

John,

Two words, NOMEX UNDERWEAR.

Yup, that's the fuel tank. As scary as it looks I have never heard of an incident with it there. You really have to try and wreck these things. They'll pull 3+ Gs in a corner without any chance of flipping. It's recommended to actually wear a rib vest while driving them, they will corner hard enough to crack/break ribs.

Is that a Kubota Michael? If it is, then thats my next tractor! (If it's not, then it's still my next tractor!) Big step up from a 25hp Simplicity.

Zak, that guy in the boat ain't you my friend!! I bet you kept the photo of the pretty girl that came with your wallet too? (And your wife is prettier than the photo anyway!) What, you DIDN'T keep that photo? You have WHAT? A photo of a sheep? No, that is not a Moose, it's a sheep! I thought you knew the difference? Oh it's a male sheep...man you scare me Zak!

I'm not listing old toys, makes me too nostalgic.

Sweet pics, thanks for the link, looking at the RS125 gave me goose bumps. I would love to experiance that machine dragging my knees ! Don't get to see to many here in the USA. Are you a Mick Doohan fan by any chance ? I've been on the track with Matt Maladin and Anthony Goebert to name a few other fellow australians.
Thanks again

This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. Here, I've got pounds of this.

Pwp,
Yeah that RS125 belongs to the guy who owns the site, its not actually mine, he just hosts the pictures of my holiday to the UK. (the second link I posted.) definite Mick Doohan fan. Havent shared the track with any really big names. I did meet John Mcguiness though whos a top bloke and can lap the IOM TT at over 120mph average. Ive got the same brand racing boots as Matt Mladin though. Does that count? I have though done some superb track days at the magnificant Donnington Park and Brands Hatch circuits riding a Honda NC30. Two of the greatest tracks in the world. Just have to the 'Ring, Laguna Seca and Phillip Island.

Johnc,
I think youre right actually. I should research it more. Im a huge BMW fan. Im particulalry pleased with getting Emmos autograph that day - truly one of the greats.

Great to see so many mountainbikers on here too. Snowman, I am sooo jealous of your stable of machines past and present!

Pete - had a sex toy but I got rid of her...

Had to throw in here with a few:

1956 Willys Jeep CJ5 (in sotrage in the states)
1976 Toyota LandCruiser BJ40
1990 Toyota LandCruiser LJ78
1995 Disco
Miyata Ridge Runner MTB

As for the picture of the Massey, Michael, I'd have to say that while it's better than a Kubota, I'd take a good IH (befor the merger with Case) 424 or 656. Or even better, an old John Deere 60. Spent an entire summer helping my Dad rebuild one long, long ago.

Musky:
$4000 in Grass Seed (that Sensemilia is expensive!)
$125 for flag and cup

$1900 replacement windows

Not waiting in line with pompous golfers at the course: Priceless

Zak, I love that boat!! (And the guy in it isn't bad! :))
My parents sail...have a 199? Nauticat 40 (ft) motorcruiser name 'Sea Sprite.' Great boat for the family -room to sleep 5 and two bathrooms with showers...she could sail the Atlantic (and has). She's docked in Annapolis MD. But I want a sweet little wooden boat someday.

The only other toy I have right now is actually Ivan's, it's a Honda 4-wheeler ATV. We want to bring it to MAR next year to watch everyone on the tougher trails!!

Thanks Sus. My wife has always wanted one, and I found it on Ebay, of all places for a REALLY good price, So I bought it for her. Wooden boats have a bit more upkeep, but we just love them non the less. I'd love to learn how to sail and get a nice boat someday, but for now I'm very happy trailering the 14'er behind the disco.

Pretty nice guy we bought it from as well. Garrett, he's just you type! Although he's a detective, and pretty built so he can probably handle the rough stuff, just how you like them!

Well, this was my other toy. After sitting idle for two years, I decided it was time to go. Ever since I got my DII, all my efforts have been spent on it.

'27 Ford Track Roadster. Not shown are the track nose and 351-W w/ 4sp AOD transmission. Hated to see it go, but it needed a better home!

How long did you wait till your first off-road trip with the little one? Only I have been through so much disgusting swampy shit, the disco is not exactly sterile, and the wife is worried about even putting her inside, let alone changing / feeding her LOL!

Dean, I hate to admit it but I haven't taken her out yet. We plan on going the beginning of December and that will probably be her first. I just didn't want to have to cancel the runs early because she got bored too soon. I think now that she will stay entertained by the scenery. Here she is enjoyinf my new tires.

2 years? I have to wait 2 years? Man, panic panic panic.... Ok breath, breath, I need oxygen.

Seriously that's a great picture -she's so cute! (The girl, not the disco). Is that a RTE slimline bumper you got there? Nice tires too

Greg Davis (Gregdavis)
Posted on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 - 02:13 pm:   Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

LOL! No, you don't have to wait that long. It's just that the few times I've gone out in the past year were all day long events or required staying overnight, and I just thought that her attention span wasn't good enough at that point. I've seen them much younger out on the trails.

If you're serious about the bumper, I built it. Reason I say that is everywhere I go people ask if it's a RoverTym unit. I'm actually removing his decals because I think that causes part of the confusion. Sorry John.

THAT IS THE CUTEST PICTURE GREG!!!!

And Zak, enjoy the little boat. Don't get me wrong, sailing on the C-Bay with the mainsail and the jib open wide is great and I love my parents boat, but it's a lot of work, hassle and money! They used to race little 20-25ft sailboats when they first got married and those are more my speed. Plus, the 40-footer can't be trailered!!! :)

Oh, and you asked me in another thread about the college I attended. Randolph-Macon Woman's in Lynchburg. I work for them as well. Ask your wife if she knew anyone there...she might make a scowling face...we are all enemies you know! J/K

Dean,
I'd wait until she has some neck control befor taking her on anything too bumpy. The first time I took my daughter on some bumps before she had much control I felt bad.
When she got a bit older (10 months) she seemed to enjoy it but then again, she'd fall asleep and her whole body would just flop around. My plan now is to take her some place she can sleep on the way there, then wake up and have some fun. It's also more enjoyable in the Disco with a forward facing seat.

I'm with peter, my daughter now 5 loves to wheel but when she was younger she would get really tired fast and fall asleep and flop around. after a hour long wheeling trip last year at 4 years old she had a sore neck she said.little kids have big heavy heads for there body, so i'd be really careful no matter when you start.

Very nice house! I am curious if it's heated by solar gain? Also is the poured foundation on rock or do you also have a cellar/basement? The windows across the top certainly add a nice line. And yes they sure soak up the money but if you do the work your self it's great fun.

Thanks for the compliments on my daughter. Never knew I had a void in my life until she came in and filled it.

Yes, the head-flopping was also a concern of ours. We're scheduled to go out the first week in Dec so I'll let you know how it goes. The Rover is like a big rocking chair for her. Lulls her right to sleep!

Thanks, snowman.
I have to explain that my wife and I are both architects by education. So you can imagine how much thought goes into that project. We acquired the lot in 1994...
It is conventionally heated by oil, but we want to add some solar cells to the "garage" (which is an adjacent building) for warming water in the summer. The hill is north orientated, so you got not much sun in the winter months. As you guessed, the foundation was costly because the rocks had to be cleared (luckily no dynamite was needed) and then the basement was made as a tub of waterproof concrete. For more pictures, look here:
The Stoermer House
The rocks are best quality granite. Up the hill, there are some old quarrys from the 1920s. This Area is were the Siegfried Saga is said to have happened. It is a good place for wheeling and mountainbiking.

We are still a long way from finishing that thing, but it's worth it. Anyway, the Disco gets very little attention at the moment. :-(

That is an absolutely fantastic website! I like the Dobies too, they look happy! You certainly laid a large quantity of rebar in the floor, it looks about 3" on center, very solid. Do you have radiant heat? It seems like it would be an ideal build for that system. Thanks for sharing it and have fun with your home, it's awesome.

Hehe, yes, they had problems to squeeze some concrete in between. The static engineer meant this would be indispensable.
Anyway, if radiant heat means a heated floor: yes, and it's great. Because of the good insulation, there is not much heating needed.
Snowman, you are in this business? I knew you are a man of taste when I read your MTB-List...

...back to your comments above, "...but if you do the work your self it's great fun."

I completed the work myself and the reward is well worth the investment.

Go for it!

I am just a homeowner with a knack for detail. I am not a professional builder. I especially found appealing the different materials you used in your home. The use of glass and the lines they created is wonderful. Also the concrete looks so solid. I have considered concrete countertops in my kitchen as I have seen this material finished quite beautifully. It also can be colored however you want. As far as mountain bikes, I am a big fan of Ti and Dean builds a nice frame for the money. It's way too easy to spend too much for just a tiny bit of performance with Ti. Again nice website and enjoy your house project!

David, very nice indeed. That pic in the rain is by far the best. Edit out the bucket and flower box, and you're left with a striking composition of wood, water, and steel worthy of an art gallery.

This may not be a mahogany piece of art, but it helps catch the fish:

no, boat lives in Key Largo & I don't visit it often enough. No point in having a boat here in AZ - I'd rather play in highway traffic than boat on AZ's reservoirs. We just had the stern rebuilt to free up more space (pic taken in shop yard) and I haven't even taken it out with the new configuration yet. Don't have any digi pics of it afloat here on this computer.
