I had a service engine light come on today. My 2001 D2 has 26,900 miles. The nearest dealer is about 4 hours away. I expected to be able to drive my Rover up this weekend and get it worked on.

BUT, the dealership in Birmingham is not open on Saturday and they will not give me a replacement car because "there is a long waiting list" nor will they rent me a rental car.

So it is up to me to rent my own rental car and suck up the expense myself. What total horse shit.

Unless your service engine light is blinking it not anything serious and you should be able to drive until they can get you in. I had my service eng light come on a month ago and drove it for a week before they could get me in. It was an O2 sensor and the only thing I could tell was I used a bit more gas. My dealership I called said if the light started to blink they would look at it right away.

Don't get me wrong, generaly i agree, LR cust service CAN suck, but I think your OK until they can get you in.

It's not about getting me in . . . I know they can get me in. It just pisses me off that they no longer provide you a rental until its fixed. What the heck am I supposed to do? I can't take a day off from work and drive four hours for them to hook a computer up to it. Futhermore, if something requires more time than same day service, then I'd have to make another four hour trip back up to Birmingham and miss another day of work.

Generally, this problem is solved by taking it in on Saturday, but the dealership in Birmingham is not open on Saturdays.

Unplug the battery for 10 secs. It will go off. Mine's on again, and i don't give a flying fuck, since it comes on all the time. LR told me its just empty on gas, and to keep it more full. What crap. It drives fine, so I ignore it.

Anyway, you could get an OBD-II reader for $100-150 and let us know the code - maybe someone can help you fix it yourself or just reset the damn thing as stated above.

My dealers service department is not open on Saturdays anymore as well. I could understand them not giving you a rental if it was to be a week before it was looked at, but they should still give you a rental for when you bring it in for service.
It is my undersanding Land Rover offered a rental free of chanrge for repairs. I always get a rental when I bring mine in.

According to the LR dealership in Birmingham, LRNA stopped providing rentals about two months ago.

I crawled back under the DISCO this afternoon and discovered the problem. The vent tube that runs parallel to the gas line had become disconnected near the gas tank. I guess all that mud I slung on it this weekend weighted it down too much. HA! LRNA can kiss my ass again!
