Check this out!

http://www.motorcities.com/contents/99HHL483217052.html

After all the years I've been into wheelin', I have never seen one of these, not even a picture on the net. From what I can tell so far, it doesn't look like they make these anymore. Does anybody know more about them? Can you imagine if they ever hooked up with Rover? Obviously this wasn't built for the rocks, but I bet it would be a blast out in the desert!

They made 2 models the LM002 and the LM004. Production was from 86-93 with about 300 total units. There are about 25 of em stateside. They are certainly desert machines, I think the majority of them ended up in the middle east, and several were used in Paris-Dakar rallies. And if you thought Rovers were expensive to maintain :)

I believe there was an even less known beast made by Ferrari in the same time period, but I can't seem to find any info on the model.

I don't believe you're gonna see any out fourwheeling. I've seen maybe 5-6 in my life and they were all at either Lambo dealers or at places like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills (2 parked next to each other-probably his & hers). ONE Pirelli tire on these things costs about $1200! The only place I think you might see these things offroad is in Saudi Arabia.

I have a video of one somewhere, but like they sound really really strange, almost like a jet engine!! And it held like some huge amount of petrol, like 45 gallons or something!

I do not know much about them but a guy in the area I grew up had one. I remember him saying he did over 80 mph on the beach in light surf!!!!!

it was custom built to protect some Saudi's property/oil fields, they never intended to mass produce them and sell, what I remember he (the Saudi Prince) backed out of the deal and Lamborghini was stuck with a bunch of them... the back was made to hold a machine gun and soldiers

I get the mag DuPont registry and there has been one of the Lambo's in there for about 3 years. It's white and it goes for like $75,000 for a 1989. It looks so silly.

Just my 2 cents.

I've seen a couple on the road in CT. I remember going to a show and they had them there too. From what I recall the US version had run flat or bullet resistant tires. While the ROW got bullet resistant body. 110mph on sand with 4wd was the sales pitch.

Ughh, Italians make spectacular and beautiful sports cars, but their offroad vehicles are simply butt ugly. Also, they don't seem to be offroad equals to the big three(Rover,Toyota,Jeep).

The Laforza is not made by Ferrari. It uses a Ford 5.0 V8 engine but the vehicle IS made in Italy by one of the body carroseries (I think it might have been Ghia?). They didn't sell and the mfg/importer went bankrupt. These came out originally in the late eighties and the remaining stock of vehicles sat without drivetrains as Ford stopped delivery of engines due to lack of payment. Then someone bought the remaining vehicles and made a deal with Ford for new Mustang 5.0 engines (previous to the new DOHC Ford engine) and started selling off "new" Laforza's a few years ago. They're crap offroad and their lousy build quality and interiors make LR's look downright bulletproof.

My (lengthy) 2 cents

I went to the website-apparently it's Pininfarina that builds them not Ghia.

Here is some more info on the Lamborghini

Orders began coming in for this new and strange looking vehicle, and the first went to H.R.H. King Hassan of Morocco. Soon others followed, with every possible option installed on them, from 'basic' factory models to heavily armoured ones. Even the 7.0-Litre marine engine was installed in some of them, at one time even a station wagon-type was constructed as a prototype, but never entered production.

The LM-002 became an immediate success, wherever you went with it, you would be admired, in the United States it even became known as the 'Rambo-Lambo', probably because its military looks and huge power. With its 1.89 m height, the LM-002 was a very impressive vehicle to appear in your rear view mirror, when you did see it, it was time to make way for it, because the LM-002 would surely pass you by in a cloud of dust.
The LM-002 standard equipment included every luxury item available, leather seats, thick colour-matched carpeting everywhere, air-conditioning, tinted power-windows, a stereo system mounted in a roof console and much more, but still some were sold each year to various armies around the world.

The Saudi army ordered 40 of them for their own use, all equiped with machine guns. This military version of the LM was finished less fancy, the roof had a panel built into it with two trap doors, which opened above the rear seats.

But the biggest market for the LM-002 were the wealthy people who wanted to drive a Countach but lived in places without 'real' roads.

The large center bulge on the hood accomodated an equally huge air-cleaner casing, mounted directly over the six Weber carburetors. The fuel supply system was equiped with two filters, in-line and in-series, and the carburetors were set to burn far less than perfect fuel. An oversized radiator with two high-speed fans kept the 'hot' engine cool.

The LM-002 was mounted on massive Pirelli Scorpion tires which offered unmatched roadholding capabilities on both tarmac and sand, but which were also very expensive. These tires were exotic,
Automobili Lamborghini SpA had Pirelli made them especially for the LM and offered them in two different tread designs, one for 'mixed' use and the other for 'sand' use only. These tires could be run virtually flat without risk and were the only rubbers available to compete with the desert heat, the loading and the speeds that the LM could inflict on them.

The LM bodyshells weren't made by Lamborghini, in fact they came fully assembled from Spain.

The reason these beasts needed a 45 gallon fuel tank was because they made something like 3 miles per gallon! The Laforza is a pathetic looking vehicle, and although the LM-002 also is fairly goofy looking it closely resembles the original Hummer in many resecpts. I personally think the original Hummer is the next best looking "4x4" around besides most Land Rovers.

I'm not certain but I seem to recall the Lamborghini and the Hummer were products of the same design group, hence the similarities in appearance.
