Check the cables, and make sure there isn't a output port select switch that got bumped. |

If you have more than one type of video output on the DVD player, try some of the other outputs - they could still be functional. |

check to patch cords as well...especially if the dvd is balenced ontop the tv. nobody would want to tell dad they knocked it off stretching the cable and causing it to fail. |

open it up, get a wooden chopstick and poke around at all the connections, if you find a loose one then carefully re-solder it and count yourself very lucky if it works. If you find a resistor that is obviously burnt up you could try finding a matching one at radio shack but that might be another result of the problem and not the problem itself. Thats about all a layperson can do with electronics nowadays. |

Oh yeah, if you still have the box try taking it back to the store. A lot of places don't even seem to care about receipts or dates of purchase anymore, especially if you are getting an exchange instead of a refund, and even more so if the employee really doesn't give a shit. Also if wal*mart sells the same one try taking it back there, don't worry about whether or not it came from there or not I can vouch for the fact that they will take back stuff that they didn't sell. And don't feel bad, they screw over enough people to deserve it. |

carter, should I unplug it before I start poking around. Just kidding. I opened it up and looked around a bit. Nothing unusual...no burnt smell or obvious bad conections. I was using a standard plug in for the video output and I thought that maybe it was that loose connection so I bought an s cable and tried that. still no dvd video. it is really cutting down on my video watching. Normally that would be ok but it is winter here and too much snow for the hard trails so I havn't broken anything on the truck lately and there is only so much garage cleaning you can do. |

You actually scared me a little with that first sentence. LOL. (just a side note to anyone reading this and putting it their memory banks for future reference: even when unplugged a lot of capacitors and other components in modern electronic equipment can still hold a lethal charge for days so be careful even when stuff is unplugged) |

My dvd fucked up - it said no disc all the time, whatever was in there. Had to get a new part, cost a lot. But now in radio shack you can pick up a decent dvd for $60. Dean |

The last time I removed the cover on my VHS player to fix it I found 2 gummies bears, a plastic fork and a leggo. Funny it worked great after I removed them. Does that make me an Electrical Engineer? S- |
