Hi all, I just bought a shiny 2000 D2 SE7 with all the bells and whistles except ACE. The previous owner put on a 2" OME lift, CDL, Rear Tru-Trac, 265/75's, lighting, and some ham radio stuff. You can see the rig here: http://www.discoweb.org/curtisnewkirk/ Of course, some of you know that this has been "mine" all along. Actually it was a lease vehicle and I just bought out early. Even saved money over what the dealer would have sold me a similar one. There was some drama however. I actually went to another dealer on a sunny Saturday and traded in my rig on a 1999 Suburban 4X4 LT. With a third child on the way the space made practical sense. It was nice too. Loaded, and BIG! After driving it for a few days, I felt an absence in my life. It was like a part of me was missing. I told others I felt like I traded in my Porsche on a station wagon. No matter how good all that space felt, it made me feel...well...not me. I went back to the dealer on Tuesday with the saddest look I could muster, handed them the keys on the 'Burb, and begged them to give me my rig back. They reluctantly obliged and we reversed the deal. The fact that the 'Burb was leaking coolant all over the place and had a creak in the windshield helped. It also made me convinced that the Rovers reliability insn't nearly as bad as the current American rigs. So I now own my rig and I am happy I have my Porsche back. It may not be a Porsche on the road, but it sure hell is off the beaten path. Curtis |

Thanks KJ and Paul, I finally just read the painful H2 thread. Admittedly, I have been too buried to keep up with many threads on this board lately. Anything including "H2" is off my radar scope. That being said, I was surprised I did not get more comments. IMO - the Sub is representative of a total pile of shit. The space and towing ability is damn nice, but that only goes so far. For that matter, the size carries a lot of liability even on-road...like parking. Anyways, have a great Thanksgiving. Curtis |

Had one of those "burbs" once. got it cross axled and had to crawl out the windows. when I finally got it unstuck I never could open the back gate again. the towing power is good untill you have to replace a or two. Mine broke in Aho, Arizona...I called my wife and told her that the went out, (she was so tired of the problems with the thing) she said she didn't care if I gave the thing away...I was so sick of it too that I sold it for $1500. and a ride to the airport. Best thing I ever did was to get rid of that thing. |

Curtis, 15 months ago, I leased a '01 Discovery. It was my first lease, I usually buy a car and drive it forever. I leased the Discovery because I wasn't sure how it would hold up, and didn't want to try and trade a Land Rover to the local Honda, Ford, etc. dealer, figuring I would get killed on the deal. With a lease, at the end of the term, I could hand back the keys and move on. I've really enjoyed the Discovery, and living in ski country in the Rockies it is a great vehicle for tough conditions. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of deal did you get - I've heard that the leasing companies will offer buyout incentives, and also trade-up incentives to get you into a new model. I just drove an '03 for several days, but wasn't that impressed with the 4.6 engine, and I did not like the new stiffer suspension at all. So, I would like to keep mine, but buy it. Finally, did you purchase an extended warranty or were you offered one? Thanks, Jack Parker |

Most of them had the 700R4 that was plagued with Converter/trans issues. If you had one that made it to 100K you can consider yourself very lucky... Kyle |

Jack, I leased mine for basically the same reasons. To buy it out, I just called the leasing company. The total was $26.5K, which was not bad since I had bought the rig for $36.5K two years ago and the lease buyout at the end of term (May '04) was $20.5K. The dealer had several D2's that were not as nice as mine in the $27K to $28K range. I have not purchased an extended warranty yet because mine is already covered 5yrs/60K. To extend this to 7/100K was $2300 and I may do this as soon as I can pony up the money. Curtis |

Thanks Curtis. I am interested in adding some mods, and didn't want to get too carried away before I own it. Jack |

Jack, I was in a similar boat. The key is that many of the mods can be done in a reversable manner and still yield good results. The lift, bumper, and tires can all be backed out of quickly and with little money. The CDL can be included in this list if you use the method I used. Curtis |
