Sighting: White, no lift, ARB w/ winch, and a wilderness rack. Hwy 65 south, just south of Pine Bluff, AR. I flashed my lights but was in a full size chevy truck (rental, my disco is in the shop). I am about 95% sure you are the same guy that lives in Baton Rouge and never waves back or flashes lights :), guess you went up to Arkansas for that god-awfull LSU game. Speak up if you lurk around here, I go to school in Conway, AR now, but am down in BR on a fairly regular basis as that is were I grew up and my parents still live there.

Carter,

I was not the guy but you mentioned places I am quite familiar with. I am from New Orleans and went to LA Tech in Ruston, LA. Do you live in Pine Bluff? I had a friend from there who owns dance studios called Belmont School of Dance, her name is Meredith Berry (when married her last name was Baugh.)

I had a bunch of frat brothers who were from Arkansas (El Dorado, Crossett, Maumelle). One frat brother was at Conway and then transferred to LA Tech (Pike).

Hey Robb

I too went to LA Tech, now living in the N.O. area. When did you graduate or what years were you there. Do you still ride pledges around screaming if you ain't Pike you ain't .... and do you still have the trashed lawn party.

Tom,

I was at Tech for my first two years of college (1992 - 1994). I then moved back home and finished up my undergraduate work at UNO and then went on to Tulane to get a Masters degree.

As far as Pike pledges, I dont think they ride around anymore yelling at other frats. I went there this summer to our first alumni meeting in an attempt to save the chapter. Due to repeated hazing violations we were suspended from campus. Now the pledges have a "walk in the park" for the pledge period.

I always loved the Trash the Yard party. As pledges we had to go and get old furniture and also buy an old car. We bought a car for $75. I think that is over now since the City of Ruston would fine the frat for various city violations.

I believe riding the pledges around stopped when one year we were in front of the Kappa Sigma house and they attacked the truck and it ended up being a brawl. Pike was blamed and was told not to do it anymore. It's not all bad, we still have the Sigma Nu's next door to yell at from our balcony.

Have you been out to the Bonnet Carre Spillway to ride? If so, how is it? I live in Atlanta now and am thinking about driving my truck down next time I come visit my family and friends but am wondering if the Spillway is worth it.

I actually live in Conway, AR -I go to a small liberal arts school called Hendrix College, grew up in Baton Rouge though. I have a few friends, including one of my best, that go to LA tech.

Robb

I was there from 85 to 89. I was a Phi Kap. I've heard a lot of stories about the decline of Tech and Ruston. The Pike Sig thing sounds about right. When I was there y'all had a very good relationship with Dean Stinson(not sure of the spelling) and were able to get away with murder. No thats not a reference to the guy that died on the water slid at jungle party I think thats what you called it. That was a long time and many bottles of tequila ago. Can't say much about the spillway its been since college that I've been there but I've driven by and seen it being used. Land Rover of New Orleans supposedly takes people out there. I've heard people take about 9 mile point on the west bank but I don't know where it is. Drop me a line when you're coming out this way.

Tom

PS. Where is our couch. It disapeared right before Trashed Lawn party.

Carter,

Ever been to the ORV park in Hot Springs...any good terrain for a stock Disco? My Rover club is heading out there on the 14th, sounds like a great place.

Carter,

Details at;

You can't study on a Saturday...I'm pretty sure it's against the law :)

I'm probably heading out on the 13th to get a hotel in Hot Springs and party with some of my Air Force buddies stationed at Little Rock AFB, then spend the day wheelin on Saturday. It'd be great if you could make it...the more the merrier!

Yeah thats true except I think I might actually have a TEST on Saturday (isn't that horrible), maybe I will just tell them I'm Jewish and need to go to temple.... nah, that would be wrong. Let me see what my schedule is because I would love to go. I will let you and your club know if I can.

Test on Saturday....ouch.

Well, hopefully you can make it...actually hopefully I can make it. I've got to take a trip to San Antonio sometime in the next few weeks and I'm hoping it won't be around that weekend.

Tom,

I will try and find out what and where 9 Mile Point is. I am sure it is basically mud.

Yeah someone died at Pike Bash when you were there. I was wondering the same thing. How the hell did someone fall to their death and the fraternity did not miss a beat. I do know after that year Ruston passed an ordinance about the height of structures residents can build without a building permit or something like that.

I went to Ridgewood Prep School in Metairie and there were guys older than me who joined Pike while you were there (Glenn Harper, Lee Hershberg, Mike LeJeune, Kirk Selenberg). That is why I joined it. Do you remember any of them?

Robb

Sorry none of those names ring a bell. I didn't know many Pikes. Glenn and Mike do sound a little familiar. I'm not sure though. Wheres Ridgewood Prep. I dont remember it when we were looking for schools for my son.

That was a rough time for Pike. They had a pledge jump off Neilson dorm around the same time. One thing I must say for Tech and Ruston the old logging roads around there are what got me into wheeling.
