Got lubed up and caught a ride to the dealership earlier today to pick up my truck, one starter, a stepper motor, a bunch of fluids, and a pant-load of labor hours and I was on my way for $1588.17 (than god for insurance).

I wish I wasn't up here at school or I could have at least done the starter and changed the fluids (might not have figured out the stepper motor though). Oh well thats just one of the disadvantages of not having a real place to work. Keep it in mind Will (both of you I think) and any other guys looking at college, far away from home equals far away from dads nice tools :).

Anyway, they had a '97 D90 in the showroom (kind of a rare sight in Arkansas), had a winch and a bunch of other goodies -looked like it might have actually been used to. The owner was doing a good job of kissing my ass, guess he heard about the little come-to-jesus-meeting I had with the service manager a few days back so I got to poke around a good bit, said some guy traded it in on a porsche, go figure.

In summary I find it crazy how I can go from my full size chevy rental truck with a nice ride, power under the hood, and leg room to my bumpy, cramped slow as hell disco and be happier than ever -there is just something wrong with that :)

Thom-
They did a pretty good job of describing the problem and convincing me that it did, if insurance wasn't picking it up I sure as hell would have been over there breathing down their necks and making damn sure the thing was barbequed but as it was I didn't give a shit as long as I got it back. As long as they got it all cleaned out I am pretty happy as that starter was on its way out anyway.

Yeah, but I still wouldn't put it past a lot of these places to do work that isn't really required espcially once they hear insurance is going to be picking up the tab.

What insurance paid for your vehicle getting serviced? Is it some kinda warranty?

Carter, Congrats on getting your rig back! There was a two week lag between the date I sold my 88RRC and when I got my 99D2 and I suffered. Not only from being Roverless, but from having to share a car with my wife!

Phillip-
It was a flood claim as I was on a road (even though it was dirt/gravel) when I ran into what looked like a puddle but was actually a giant hole. Thank god for full coverage. Look up the "Disco takes a ride on the wrecker thread" in the tech section if you want more details.
