So instead of upgrading the suspension I'm working on the comfort. I recently purchased this RR and the radio wasn't working. I've replaced the head unit with an Alpine am/fm CD changer controller and still need an adapter cord for the changer. Anyways get the radio in and most all of my speakers are rotten! I've been out of the stereo thing for a while but would like a fairly nice(and easy)system. Here are my current plans, let me know what you think and/or what you have in your own vehicle. alpine radio with 40 wattsx4(rated)w/changer rear alpine 5 1/4 coaxials(already have these)in the position above the rear hatch front I'm think a set of component speakers with 6 1/2" woofer in lower stock position and tweeter in upper 4" location. OR a nice pair of 4" coaxials with a pair of 6 1/2" mid bass/woofers. And for bass I'm thinking about the infinity bass link($200 on ebay) which is basically a 10" sub with a built in 200 watt amp. So I'm looking at about $500 for the front speakers and sub system. What would you do for approx the same amount of money? Goal is all around good sound for a variety of music. |

Shane, I replaced all of the stocks in my '91 RRC with Boston Pros and added 1" tweeters on the inside of the front mirrors and the back. Then had a custom box for a 10" sub made to take up the entire space where the original was and also encase the 6 disc changer. The head unit, changer and 10" are all alpine. I mounted the amp in the other side integrated into the box that covers the spare and had everything painted to match and the box covered in matching LR carpet. The amp is ADS 1000 watt going through an ADS cross over with seperate sub control. I would post pic's but for some reason I can't seem to figure out how. I can e-mail you individual pictures though if you would like. Your thoughts? Paul '91 RRC |

thanks for the reply Paul. you can send pics to: roverhybrids(at)neteze.com I went and bought the remaining components that I needed which primarily was a set of JL audio XR653-CS 3-way seperates with a 6.5, 4 and tweeter. From my search on the net they seem to be what I would like and the set was "only" 295 on ebay. I'll be running another set of some kind of 4" midrange speaker in the rear for fill. A pair of PPI amps and a pair of PPI 10's in some sort of box in the rear. I already have the PPI stuff so decided to run that since I'm not using it for anything else. Pictures of your setup would be great. Your system sound nice. Thanks for the tip on your tweeter placement. For some reason I didn't think about the backside of the mirror for placement. Glad you mentioned it before I cut up my door panels. How do you like your systems sound? Would you change anything? |

When you see my pic's, check out the box. It's actually custom shaped fiberglass, no ports, stuffed with cotton or filler to trick the speaker into thinking it's a lot bigger than it is. When the system is running all out, no distortion and your ears will ring if you go too long. |

here's a pic of Pauls sub:
Nice clean install. Is the box fiberglass over wood? How do they make the mold if not? thanks for the pic Paul. |

It's actually all fiberglass, a surfboard shaper freind of mine did it. If you look close you can see the bevel he ran around the speaker and the edge of the box. You really can't see it in the picture but even the Alpine logo was taped off when the changer was painted. |

Rob, Cheap 10" single truck boxes fit right there as well, and you still have room for the stock tools and jack, not too mention fire extinguisher, power converter and extra lighter plugs. Wire the amps under the passenger rear seats. Cheap, Easy, works. j |

Rob-My '89 came factory with 2 30x30 (120 total) watt Pioneer amps located under drivers seat-there was plenty of room for aftermarket upgrade. I use a round Pioneer subwoofer that was made for mounting inside spare tire area and it seems to work OK-I'm not sure they make it anymore. Good luck- GregH |

driver seat maybe. though i dont like the idea of the electrics being that close to water on deep fording, there is already some shit under my Drivers seat that i want to relocate. my buddy's 1990 has a small sub woofer on top of the passenger side shelf. thats not too bad of a spot, but i like to store shuff on top of mine. i considered modifieng the tail gate and putting them into it too.. it's a long way off, though... damn you guys really are pushing this radio shit on me rd |

Yeah, my '89 came with the small subwoofer on the pass side but it's pretty crappy. Blew it out long ago. I haven't worried about the amp under the drivers seat cause I still have my ECU mounted under pass seat so figure if I get water in that far the amp is the least of my worries. Hey Paul, are you going to the CORVA Truckhaven Hills Poker run? I'm going to try and make it. I'd like to see your stereo and rig. Didn't realize you'd drive all the way down to SCLR annual meeting in OC-I had heard you were there. Had a family obligation that day unfortunately... |

Thinking about it, another friend of mine and I are thinking of driving to Whistler for new years after I get back from the Hawaii trip I leave for today. So I have to see if I'll still have the cash for it. It sounds like a fun onee though. |

Rob, I have an Xtant 404 amp that I was going to put in the rangie (but now that's going to be my kid's ride, it may go into the 68 Wag). It would fit under nearly any seat (it is thin but rather large laterally). 4x50W with something like 0.01%THD. I was also thinking of putting the sub in the same location (same applies to ALL trucks I have except for the Disco), maybe will do it this Sat. peter (I have a 4x40W Sony amp sitting somewhere, too) |
