At Work
Posted on Thursday, December 05, 2002 - 08:58 am:   Edit Post Delete Post Print Post

My Boss expects me to be into the office today, because he knows I can, while most of my co-workers are home snuggled up in front of the fire place with their signifigant others, watching the pretty snow fall.

Given my Choice I'd be out playing with my Signifigant other, but its a hell of alot better than going into work!...LOL!

and being looked apon as smart and resorceful in your bosses eyes is bad ?

back before everbody and there wife and mother owned 4x4's i used to love the real snowy days in the midwest it was like peace in a otherwise busy world

enjoy the queit day at work and the respect your boss has for you

I get much more done at work on snow days.

You can also get back at your co-workers by offering to stop and pick them up on the way in. :)

I just wish all the folks with the little yotas would either get out of both lanes so I can go by them or stay home. Of course I would rather be out hitting a trail in the snow instead of sitting at the desk at work (don't even have a window to look out of on the whole damn floor) but, oh well.. That's what I get for being deemed essential.

Yeah , it was alot of fun coming in here today. The metro area people should stop breeding. That I know.....

One thing bad about this snow fall is finding out how bad my Futura MTs are in the snow. Not that I was pedal happy but I can definitely confirm that my truck was tail happy.

I think that my MTRs did ok in the snow for a "mud tire". Not as good as my old Dunlop RTs though.

But Muskyman, all of us in the Metro area(DC,MD,VA) who own LandRovers consider these commutes "ADVENTURES"- well atleast I do. Been doing the 100+mile everyday commute for 7 years now- guess how many miles I have on the 94Rover-

Hmmm... nothing like a big old winch bumper to deal with the idiots on the beltway.

Yeah the BFG MTs are aweful in the snow. One thing I don't get though - I can accelerate probably double the rate that I can brake! So how efficient is the ABS system based on that? Crap.

Dean, if you don't like the ABS why not just pull the fuse?

I remember hearing that BFG was going to offer a siped version of the MT's. Anyone know what happened to this idea? I keep two sets of tires because I have yet to find someone in the DC Metro area that will sipe tires. I have to go to NC to get them done.

Al the ABS is only worse when there is soft stuff to dig into (because is prevents this). On most of the road to work the roads are ploughed anyway and there is just slippery wet surface, where abs is better. Just MHO.

anyone ever drive in the snow with BFG all terrains, i was cruisen around this morning in the snow with them and they seemed to handle it all very well. I live to drive around on days like this, actually it is almost a joke how bad the roads are around where i live i don't they have seen a single plough, no matter anyway enjoy the winter weather!!

I use BFG AT's in the winter and most of the year but I do have a set of MT's too. The AT's are okay, there are better "snow" tires out there. I wouldn't call them great but they do work well and as an all around tire they're hard to beat. But for me the AT's are my choice for winter driving.

I am delighted to have AWD instead of my 4WD 'yota with rear locker - this is so much nicer, and the Michelin 4x4 tires work great.

If you're interested, I siped my own tires:

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/sipe/

That helped a great deal. The Ideal Heated knife was around $60/shipped and traction was vastly improved. It worked so well I went ahead and grooved them too:

http://www.4x4wire.com/tech/grooved_tires/

And that was the cincher. Even with the rear locker, I stayed in 2WD almost all winter here in Cleveland (and we do get a lot of snow!).

Well if the snow doesn't melt off by the weekend and you want to go wheelin', email me. I don't know any trails up here, but you might?

nope, don't really know of anything close that is legal. i hear stories of trails on Ft Belvoir, but never been to look, and I used to ride the trails down at Quantico (7+ years ago), but other than that, and construction sites, don't know of anything besides GWNF. anyway, i'll let you know if i do anything and vice versa.
