I read through that last thread but really all I seemd to get was a lot emotional opinion. I am trying to figure out what they are really made of.

i think the conclusion was that what H2 is really made of is not important.
what is important is that it's bad ass.

It is 1/2 Tahoe, 1/2 Suburban (frame, that is), with a different body on top, and the stronger components that a 1/2 ton pickup. I think it has drivetrain parts out of a 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup, so they are stout.

It also has a 6.0 Liter 300 HP motor with over 300 ft/lbs of torque.

I don't know if Ho was being sarcastic or not, but I am one person who does, indeed, think it is bad ass. I would love one for towing, light trail duty, and annoying people who don't like it.

Actually.....

The frame is really made of three parts. The front part is taken from the 3/4 ton suburban, the rear third is from a 1/2 ton suburban, and in between these two is a section designed specifically for the H2 (I think I remember hearing that they had to design new cross members also).

And yeah, pieces of the drivetrain, steering components and brakes came from the 3/4 ton.

My wife saw one and thought it was a mini-van. that cracked me up.
Did I mention they are ugly? Did I mention mine is the only opinion allowed, thus making it fact? :)

They look like a 5th grader designed them. "Lets make it AWESOME." Ugly. At least the first Hummers were cool-ugly, these are like pimp-ugly.

I rented one for a week through by work and I would never buy one. Say what you want about how it looks, the driving and interior have many flaws for a 60K vehicle. Typical Americam engineering. I am not impressed. I would stick with my D1 any day. If you want a Hummer, get the old ones

For What its worth,

I like the H2 from many angles, and I am disappointed by it from many others. There are very few vehicles produced anymore that have a uniqueness and/or outstanding abilities about them that an Owner can fall in love with. The H2 styling is unique, some will love it, others will hate it, few will fall in between. I also like that it is actually an Off-Road Capable vehicle, something very few manufactures sell these days. Currently, I believe that the H2 and the Wrangler Rubicon are the most capable, out of the dealership, vehicles you can buy.

Now before you slam me (and I am sure many will) I am a die hard Rover fanatic, and not going to be purchasing an H2, much less replacing one of my Rovers with it. But lets face the facts. Not even a currently available Land Rover will be as capable off road, straight of the Dealership Sales Floor. A Stock Discovery comes with 29" tall tires, long rear overhang, considerable less ground clearance, and can not even lock its center differential. The H2 by comparison arrives on nearly 35" tires, with short over hangs (longer wheelbase), and not only a center diff lock, but also a true locking rear differential. As a bonus, it even comes with an engine that makes some real torque.

Not to say the H2 is the best vehicle out there, or that a mildly (but smartly) built Rover couldn’t walk away from it for less total investment. I even believe a Stock D-90 would out wheel it, despite the Defender’s lack of a differential lock in its read axle. The H2 has many flaws as I see them as well. Its build quality, and materials are typical cheap American. The dash looks stupid in design, and cheesy in implementation, and many of the exterior parts are flimsy plastic junk. Even more disappointing are the light weight stamped steel suspension components, IFS, button controlled transfer case, lack of manual transmission availability, Etc. Etc…. However, when considering available options, and the capability offered off the show room floor, it’s a refreshing step in the right direction, from an enthusiast’s standpoint. It’s a shame they will mostly be grocery getters.
