I got a "free" Handspring Visor for taking the MS.NET C# Programming class last week. The literature showed several GPS modules that fit it so I went to cnet.com for their reviews. The Magellan GPS Companion got the best reviews... Geode got the worst. So, I went to Staples and pickedup a GPS Companion. The weather here now is rainy (and we need it) and the GPS is having a hard time acquiring the satellites. It takes 3, of course, to get a location fix. When it has fixed, I'm impressed with the accuracy. Moving the PDA just a few inches causes a change in the position readout. How accurate it really is is not within my ability to verify. To use the maps, you need to know the counties and cities through which you will travel and then Hot-Sync them from the CD to the PDA. The Hot-Synce base that came with it is USB. So far I like it. Anyone else have experience with the Magellan Companion ? Mark |
