OK some guesses: coil wire. I've had this happen. One of the small wires either fall off or one of the connectors break disconnecting the wire. doesn't explain burning smell. ignition switch. that's all I got for now. |

Have you got it wet lately? It could be water in a multiplug causing high resistance leading to overheating wires. Also check for any wires chafing on the engine. Have you lost the spark? Was the burning smell inside? Do you still have ignition lights? |

Mine did the same thing. I beat on the coil and it started. New coil, all better. |

same thing happened to our rover 92 county. quick diagnostic pull high tension lead off of distrubitor hold about half inch from engine block ( valve cover ) have assistant turn engine over. if you dont see a bright blue spark then a problem. the problem with ours was ignigition amplifier. its located on front of distributor. |

the vehicle has not gotten wet, had been driving it all day (5 miles earlier did stop to fill up with gas); all lights and accessories worked; engine will spin, not start; not sure if any spark or not (didnt check); the burning smell was mainly in the interior, really couldnt smell it outside under the hood; the coil (my first thought too)was replaced at SAE, but it wasnt hot like last time; this all happened at 11:00 pm |

is there an inertia type sensor or some kind of reset switch under the drivers seat that can go off? |

Same thing happened to my 91. Checked fuses and fuel pump was shorting out. There was a hole on the top of the resonator and the heat melted the wires above it. That also explained why my driver side driving lights were acting strange. Couldn't hurt to check!! Keep us posted. Adrian 91 RRC |

I saw one early RRC just die like you said. Apparently some of the wires that lead to the coil got fried. You might want to check those to see if they died. I say this b/c if this is what happened to your truck, then it is an easy fix. Good luck. Max T. |

Happened to me on my '93. The connector to the ignition amplifier (on the side of the distributor) was loose. Should have a wire retaining click, but mine had broken off at some point. Cost me a tow, when all I had to do was push down on the dumb thing! |

and the winner is: will and steve.....it was the coil!!! why would a 3 month old coil go bad? has anyone up graded their coil from stock? if so, what did you put in there.....is there an advantage to the upgrade or just more "neat looking stuff" under the hood? |
