I was out wheelin' alone this past weekend in my pickup and got high centered on a rock. Tried everything even airing down. Fortunately, a group of Dwebbers were running the same trail and helped me winch out my ride. Unfortunately, they destroyed my truck. Do you think I can sue them or should I try to get the warranty company to cover the damage?
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated. I will post pics in a few minutes. |

Yep, that's the one. I wouldn't say "abandoned", it was more like "stolen/got stuck/vandalized/destroyed". I don't get it, why not strip the darn thing instead of destroying it? It even had the keys in the ignition, the plates were still on it, a For Sale sign with the owners number and some papers in the glove box (one piece of paper was a legal notice, I think it said something about an arrest warrant???!!!).. |

Also, did anyone look around the area for a body?

I was thinking of calling the owner but when I saw the arrest warrant I backed off...you never know if the owner thinks we stole it or something.
What are you talking about? New Jersey is the safest place to live in the US.... NOT!!!!! |

I still think the truck broke down, the guy hiked out or caught a ride out with a friend intending to come back with a tow truck and found the Jackson Whites had left a " no trespassing" indication! |

back in 1988 i walk out of the stateline diner on rt 17 in northern NJ with one of my buddies that grew up there.
some little fuck is upside down in my car stealing the stereo. i grab the guy by the ankles drag him outa my car and beat him and his lookout into submission.
the cops show up and arrest the two little shits and then warn me ...you better look out those "Jackson whites" are gonna come find you.
lol..at this point in my life I lived in Allendale with my girlfriend and 6 rotties I wasent real worried about it. |

I was totally lost as to what you guys were referring to, anyone else? Then I found this: Jackson Whites, name applied to a group of people of mixed descent (African, European, and Native American) living in the Ramapo Mts. along the New Jersey–New York state line. The origins of these people have for years been surrounded by myth and legend, e.g., that they are descended from a mixture of the Tuscarora, Hessian deserters, women kidnapped in England by a man named Jackson, and runaway slaves. Recent research suggests that the origin of these people is to be found among remnants of the Algonquin, early white settlers (mainly British and Dutch), and free, landholding blacks who pioneered the Hackensack River valley before migrating to the Ramapo Mts. in the early 19th cent. The term Jackson Whites probably developed as a result of the continued joint reference to the mountain people as Jacks (an 18th-century term for freed slaves or blacks in general) and Whites, i.e., it became Jackson Whites by elision. Interesting stuff!

musky, so you lived in NJ before... my neck of the woods too. I too was confused about the term Jackson Whites when I first heard about it. I thought it was a new term for cops/park rangers that patrolled the Ramapo mountains.. But then again, what do I know.... I'm a FLIP. hehehe

yep lived in jersey for a while, my wisconsin upbringing stuck out like a sore thumb. ended up fighting the town of allendale over my dogs. they tried to ban rotties and it became a very big public pissing contest. I jumped ship and moved back to the midwest. but I still stick up for NJ when ever I hear some brain dead moron start knocking it because they were at the newerk airport once and they thought it was really ugly. |

Yes Leslie, they fall into the category of Melungeon or Mestee. We encountered a father/son pair on a quad Sunday, Father looked just as Jackson Whites are reported to look, and I mean no slurs here, just observations, he had coffee colored skin, African-American textured hair, but kinda white-grey colored, and his son was pale white, probably an albino. There has been much inbreeding amongst them for the past 200 years and albinoism and other birth defects like 6 fingers etc are fairly common. They were pleasant enough despite the fact that they were toting old shotguns, and it was on a Sunday, an illegal hunting day in NJ. We also encountered a group of them on the exit road from the trail. They were standing around emptying their dumptruck and they all turned to us and indicated that we were #1 in their hearts! |
