Hello folks, now finally in Denver, 2 days ago at night while driving across some mountaneous regions in northern TN, I went to flip my high beams to let a trucker pass and when I did, my lights turned off. I flipped the dip lever again towards me and they came back on. It was scary but went away real quick, I continued to drive and another 20 minutes later the lights and foglights turned off again and did not come back on, only while holding the switch back towards me as if to flash someone would the high beams work, and the low beams would not work, and the foglights also would not work. At least the parking lights worked and so did the interior lights, I pulled over took off the front grill and light guards to remove the lights and check the connections, they were fine. I tried to take apart the light switch on the side of the column and it came apart on me, so I ended up putting everything back together except the switch which was toast and I ended up bridging the red and brown wire from the switch to get interior lights and then proceeded to drive 10 miles to a Days Inn for the night, in the morning as the sun came up we took off, driving 750 miles by the time we stopped in Topeka, then did the same thing today arriving in Denver at about 3 pm. Purchased the Main switch at Denver east replaced that and I have working interior lights, I also replaced the bulbs in the lights with some ultra bright bulbs I had, I'll be visiting Flatirons tomorrow morning to see if I can figure out what's the problem, I've heard it may be a deteriorated dip switch mechanism from the high wattage bulbs I had in there for the last year since I did not have the upgraded wiring harness for those bulbs, or just a deteriorated switch, or bad ground. I hope it's the switch, Cause I know a Ground problem can be intermitent and hard to find, Any suggestions Ideas???I checked all the fuses, Maybe it's a Relay as well? for the last few weeks I had what I thought was a minor problem of when turning on the lights the pass main beam would not turn on, I would tap it and whala it would turn on. another time the lights did not turn on at all, and I flashed the high beams and they all came on, so I guess it got worse whatever it is. If you like give me a call at 305-216-8395 I'd be greatful for any advice. > >Ozzie |

That same thing happened to me a couple of years ago in a Dodge Ram I had. Coming down the mountain from Tahoe, hit the highs and all the headlights went dead except for holding the lever back as to flash the highs. And only the High Beams would work. Turned out I had fried the high/low switch due to upgraded wattage bulbs and the switch couldn't take it. Hope I could help, Paul |

Paul you hit the nail on the head, that is EXACTLY what happened. So today I bought and installed the new switch, everything worked, but since I have high wattage bulbs, I ordered the ARB high wattage harness from Rovers Accessories and will install it tomorrow and this shouldn't happen again. When I removed the old switch the contacts were burned form 1 year of high watt bulb use!. Thanks again!! Ozzie |

Hi, You're all lifesavers. I was just driving home about an hour ago and all of a sudden my regular headlights went out (on a dark road). Luckly I was not far from a friends house, so I pulled in, logged on-line and proceeded to find this post. I quickly went out and tried pulling back the headlight lever to turn on the highbeams and there was a little resisitance (and I thought I heard a "crunching sound") but the higbeams flashed....and then when I tried turning on the regular headlights, voila, they came on! ** My question now is since I have regular headlights installed, does that mean I just have dirty contacts in the switch or is the switch going bad? I'm tring to figure out how to get at the inside of the switch that you roate to turn on the headlights. Any thoughts would be appreciated and thanks! |
