I am going to have headers (Janspeed from RPI), hi-flow cats and flo master muffler (Summit Racing) installed on my 91RRC 3.9 this Thursday. If all goes well I'll post on Friday with my results.

wouldn't happen to have access to a dyno would you?
......hmmm can you even put a VC RR on a dyno if you remove the front driveline?

How about some zero to 60 mph times?

Okay......I had everything done on Friday. First impression so far is that it sounds great. Not to loud (for me anyway). My wife did ask "whats that sound coming from the back? Did they put the muffler in right? I told her that's the way it's supposed to sound! She just shook her head while smiling and said "as long as your happy....Merry Christmas". It accelerates better than it used to and on a particular long steep highway road that I used to have to hit 75mph before going up and then end up at 45mph at the top I was able to maintain 55-60mph from bottom to top! My truck has 130k and I run 245/75 MT Futuras. The shop charged me $289 total for the install which included a new longer power wire for the battery because the stock one was to close to the header and a new tail pipe from the muffler back and all new hangers. The only thing I forgot to tell them to do was to put a flange between the header and the cats. I will go back and have them do it. The muffler and cats cost me $202 shipped and the headers were $355(US) shipped from RPI. I also have from RPI an ignition amplifier which I have yet to install. All in all I am happy with everything.

Adrian,
glad you like it - just one word of advise - keep an eye on those header bolts (header to head). Not sure if the shop used locking bolts - but if you can find them to fit the Rover head - get 'em or you'll be forever re-torquing header bolts. Hopefully the headers have at least a 3/8" thk flange.

Just my .02 from lots of past fun with headers.

Bill,

I gave them new stock bolts to put on. Half of the original locks were broken. I'm gonna put new ones on when it gets warmer outside. The flanges are 3/8". Thanks for the advice. Next on my list is to have the heads ported and polished to match the headers (I know I probably should have done this at the same time but it's all about the "benjamins") and an RPI Piper cam then maybe the ECU.

thanks for the update Adrian.
What diameter is the main portion of the exhaust?

Adrian,

Sorry - should have been more clear - I actually meant something like these if they can be found for the Buick heads:

http://store.summitracing.com/product.asp?d=8&s=126&p=1464&searchtype=ecat

Headers act like a big lever on the heads and like to vibrate free like crazy. If there was room for the factory bend over locks great, but I guess I have trouble envisioning it, but have never seen the clearances between the bolt and the tube.

Also - not sure what type of gaskets you used - factory or something that came with the headers, but if you ever have trouble with them sealing - I've had luck with the dead soft aluminum style - though, again, not sure if they're available in the Buick pattern.

BTW - not trying to be a pain in the ass here - just my experiences with headers on SBC's over the years.

Good luck - I'd like to see the truck sometime soon.

Adrian-

Sorry to interupt, but I was intrigued by your post. As a percentage that's really a great improvement. What did you have installed before, stock?

Snowman,

I just made those numbers up!!!!! (but it is definetly noticable) Even my wife noticed that the truck was faster. Before the new exhaust everything was stock and both cats were rattling. I will post pics this afternoon.

Anything under 20.0 gets my attention. In mine I sometimes have kids on skateboards beating me uphill!

I know the feeling!!!! The truck now moves real good between 2500-4000rpm's. Driving around town I can floor it and it actually takes off. I used to try and avoid passing other drivers up hill cause I would never make it. Now when it down shifts it actually speeds up where I can pass others. Much more fun to drive now. My frien forgot his camera today so maybe tomorrow.
