Hi folks! I found these pictures of a Defender. Not sure if this is what the new ones will look like or just someone's project but thought I'd post them here and see what people thought of them.

Got some pictures of interior but they look like prototype interiors, just seats bolted to a metal floor with checker plating everywhere.

i beleive that is the prototype they were displaying at the auto shows a year or so ago. from stuff i've read though, the new Defender will be IFS and that looks to have a solid axle. too bad Rover decided to mess up the Defender the way Jeep did with the Liberty.

I think they were displaying it like 3 or 4 years ago to commemorate Land Rover's 50th anniversery. It was called SVX or something like that.

Hey Mel, your right it's the SV-X. It came out in 2000 as a concept. LR has said it will keep the defender till 2010, it was looking at endinding the line in 2005 but said it will continue it to 2010, as for releasing the SV-X I don't know.

Just for the record, what does "IFS" mean?

The Sv-X was built sometime in '99 or '00. Concept only. So don't get your hopes up (sorry but I know it looks like fun).

I've heard a lot of contradiction lately as far as the Defender goes. Everything from '05 to the production of the Defender ending in '10, and the US never seeing them again.

The SV-X was designed by BMW's Special Vehicle dept, only as a concept. LR was going to replace the Defender in 2006 not 2005 as I posted before. "We will not take the Defender badge and stick it on another vehicle" LR Design Chief Geoff Upex. He goes on to say that there will be a new line up, they will introduce the Range Sport to be placed between the Discovery and the Range Rover. The Discovery III is on the drawing board, Freelander is to get a facelift, the "baby" Range Rover is getting ready and the Range Rover Sport is being tested. The 2003 Defender is getting a SE version which comes in metalic paint, leather, CD changer, heated windscreen, electric windows, gunmetal finish on the grille and headlamp, not to foreget the A/C the list goes on with the amount of money you want to spend. And it won't be at dealer near you.:(

I never knew BMW had a "Special Vehicle Dept." Do you know who the chief designer was? I'm pretty sure it was done by Land Rover but doesn't really matter because we likely won't see it.

BMW created the "Special Vehicles" Dept. when they owned Rover. I'm sure they still have the Dept. under new owner Ford. I think the "SV" dept. helped the new Rovers get ready for the G4 Challenge, however they don't have the badge. Does anyone know if they replaced the "Special Vehicles" Deptartment? I haven't researched it, so if anyone out in Dweb land knows, let me know. Thanks

Carter you are right, there has always been a department of Rover for Special Vehicals, in the mid `50's they developed the Special Projects Dept. In the mid `80's it was set up as a new department which was more involed in the manufacturing process, this changed to SVO (Special Vehicle Operations). The SVO Dept is the one that developed the Camel Trophy Defender 110 and others. In the early `90's under the quasi BMW ownership the "SVO" was dropped to a more simpler title "Land Rover Special Vehicles". "LRSV" did make the "SV-X" under new ownership and guidence of BMW.

A few months ago I received a nice glossy magazine from Land Rover advertising the new Range Rover and new model line-up. The letters to the editor section included the perennial question... "Will defenders be available in North America?" The response was something like "We do not reveal product development information, but we can say that the next Defender is being designed with an eye on the North American market."
