Hey Guys,
I’m looking to ad another Lucas Lovely to the stable. I want a 67-73 MGB to do a full restoration on. I want to start with a rust free donor car, and I think the South West would be a good place to look but I’m in the North East. I’ve picked up Hemming's, and I check ebay and the MG sites, but I thought you guys might have some other suggestions on searching for a car cross country.

Also, any ideas on coast to coast car transport prices??

Thanks
Carl

Try autotrader.com and go to the collector car page. I found my Defender that way. My mom drove a first year MGB-GT (’68?) when I was a kid. Wish I had it now. Good luck in your search.

My mom and dad are really into to Triumphs, if I can think about it I'll ask one of them if they know of any good places next time I talk to them.

Try Moss Motors in Goleta, CA (near Santa Barbara). Give them a call and they probably can recommend a good CA MGB. I used to have a '59 MGA 1500 w/later MGB engine. It was a fun car!

Carl,

Besides the autotrader.com and Hemmings, the North East has a multitude of British Car Clubs. Hook up with them as most have cars for sale sections in their respective rags. If your in the DC area there used to be a shop/enthusiasts in Arlington called "Motorhead". In Newark Delaware there is a parts/boneyard/what have you called British Racing Green.

I know you said you want something to restore...I'm not sure what the real going rate for a fully restored B is these days, but you may be ahead of the game getting one thats done or nearly done.

As far as transport pricing, many years ago I had a lump sent from NYC to Columbus Ohio for $400 to $500. I would assume your at least a grand shipping from the wild wild west. If your near the Philly area and find something not to far that needs hauled in...drop me an email....have trailer and will haul for beer or a nice wine.

Thanks for the help guys. I am contacting a lot of British car clubs and the responces have been great. So far the search has been fun, it seems that the British car guys are as cool as the British truck guys! A little Lucas goes a long way.

Carter, I'd love to get the scoop from your folks.

Greg, I'm all over Moss!

Todd, that's a great offer, and the next time I'm in Philly I'll buy you a beer just for offering! Do you tow with your Disco?

Carl,
I tow with an FJ62. I haven't gotten around to purchasing the Electronic Brake Actuator and installing it in the D2 yet. A lot of other things higher up the ol priority list. Have fun in your search.

Todd,
Yea, I found and bought a 1972 MGB (non-running) Seems like the perfect project car for me. It's in central Mass, and I need to figure out how to get it here to NYC. I have untill Jan 10 to remove it or there will be a $125 storage charge. (it's been in a storage locker for a while now, and I took over the rent until I get it out of there)

Any Ideas?
carl

I didn't spend much on the car, and i rather not spend too much on the transport.

hehe-if you're a AAA "plus" member you get three free 100 mile tows (flatbed) per year per member (my wife and I are both so 6 free tows). I'm so cheap I once used three separate tows to get a project car towed 250 miles. :)

I'm not east coast savvy-how far is central mass from NYC?

By the way-nice choice on the '72. All the late model upgrades and still had the nice chrome bumpers. Hopefully not bad rust.

Thanks Greg, only surface rust on the floors and trunk, original (faded) paint (no bondo) It needs a lot of work but it's a perfect clean project start.
Last inspection was 1987 and the od reads 35 (I don't trust that one)
chome bumpers and wire wheels.

I plan a full restoration.
