I have been a huge fan of tivo for some time...but the 60 hours just aint cuttin it. there are a few sites that walk you through adding another hard drive to the recorder...anyone ever do this? let me know joshua |

I've got a good friend who did that. Apparently it's really easy to do. It does, however, void the warranty. |

Yeah, I had a couple 80giggers in there. Only drawback was the heat. The cabinet i have it in just wasn't flowing enough air and my tivo kept locking up. I now only have 1 80 in there. It's a linux file system, so you should be able to just ghost it to a larger drive. chu |

It's Linux but the file system is unique to TiVo. Very easy to do and I've done a few. Trick with heat is to actually get slower speed drives. The 7k RPM drives don't really buy you much but they will work. The standard drives were 5400 RPM drives. As for voiding the warranty issue if you make a backup of the originial drive you have a spare should something fail. But be sure you have the modem protected since they seem to fail just like any other modem should it get a power surge in the phone line. There are lots of places that go over how to upgrade it. www.tivofaq.com and www.9thtee.com are good places to look. |
