Wonderful vehicle. Interior is wonderful and to quote a certain British motoring journalist, "more power than a volcano, more presence than god". Obviously capable in the rough stuff, but would you use it?

The scary thing is that the technology jump from the classic to the P38A pales into insignificance into the technology jump from the P38A to the L322. Yes, that's right, it makes the P38A look primitive. There are almost as many ECUs on the steering wheel of the L322 as in the P38A. Even the tow bar has an ECU (don't ask me why).

I want one.

I did a 'dealer day' a couple of weeks ago and one of their customers brought his '03 RR to the trail. The owner wimped out on the tough stuff unfortunately. It's an awesome piece of work but I'm not convinced it could do what I was able to do in my '93 RR. I'd like to see one with 16" steel rims and those 9.00 XZLs, body all hacked away! That would be a sight.

Well, I didn't say more computers made it better per se. That amount of electronics scares even me!

But these computers do perform a useful function - making the vehicle more capable, functional, and environmentally friendly, albeit at the expense of the home mechanic being able to fix his own machine.

And I still want one.

I've seen a number of them on Deep Creek trail in San Bernardino mountains. That's some decent trail, with some ugly (if smooth) rocks along the way.

here's one

Peter/Anyone:
A little off this thread, but where abouts is the Deep Creek Trail?
It looks like a fun area for a one day run from LA.

Thanks,

Deep Creek is in San Bernardino Nat'l forest. I don't remember the FS trail designation, you'll be able to find it. A cool thing to do is to run it after Holcomb Creek (3N93) (you'll be running Deep Creek trail downhill - a bit easier but you'll be "broken in" by then).

it is a one day trip from LA. depending on where you live, take Hwy 91 to Riverside and I215->I10 or straight I-10 to Redlands, exit to Hwy 30/330.
From Arrowbear, you need to search EE or this or other websites for directions to Deep Creek. Damn, it may be indeed deep now!
