Who came up with those kayak racks that attached to the sides???? Anyone know where the pics of it are?? Maybe that could be adapted.

Loopked at those and they don't look like they can adapt for a surfboard

Hmmm are you shure we are talking about the same thing? I am talking about something somebody on this board actually created not something you would buy premade (though I think part of the rack was some other kind of mount that he adapted).

If you have a bag for the surfboard or go get one with handles and tie it down that way so if the wind takes it the handles will be able to catch it and it won't get dinged up.

no bag but i think ill wrap it up in a blanket and throw like 20 bungee cords down on it
that should keep it from flying away and shiftin around man it's amazing how long it take me to think of something so simple after a case of beer

Carter,
What you are talking about is about a month back or so. I believe the rig had custom made kyack carriers on the sides of it. Looked pretty easy to do. i don't see why it wouldn't work for a board!

when i strap on my surf board up top (mind i dont have an adventure rack), i wrap towels around any metal its going to touch then go crazy with bungee chords until it can't move.

If you have the factory racks, just use some of the nylon wrapped pads and straps. They are around $25.00 at any surf shop. As for strapping a surfboard to a safari rack, depends upon the size of the board. My 9'5 fits on top of my full length rack with no problem. By the way, don't reccomend the bungee cords, go and get yourself some good straps that will last.

I just got longer cross bars for my existing tule rack. Then used the euro-bar feet I had for my other car to lock on to the top rail of my Hannibal rack. handles my 10'-2" & 9'-6"great, just one down side, I now have a 9'-0'' min. clearence. Paul's right, ditch the bungees.

Hey Paul, did we meet at the last SCLR meeting?

Just get some pads and tie it down. That's what I do.

Paul, I can’t go to the Poker Run I’ll be in Mammoth hopefully carving up some fresh powder. I was so bummed when I checked my calendar, it sounds like a lot of fun. Well maybe I’ll catch you at the next club run. Just hope they start setting some dates soon my schedule is already starting to fill.

Mammoth should be good, hopefully another storm will roll through by then. I just got back from New Years in Tahoe at Squaw, it must have snowed 4ft in the 4 days we were there. I think Lake Taheo is Land Rover world. I saw more '03 Disco and Raneg Rovers than anywhere else I have been lately.

Prdscott, go to a good hardware store and get the black rubber "bunjee" style cords..get one about 22 inches..i think..i have used two of those before with the same set up and it works..just make sure the cords are snug..they have heavy duty hooks at the end that you can slide under the railing on the rack...it works at freeway speeds two...get a good board bag too. i carry up to five boards with this setup...both short and long boards

I used two pieces of foam pipe insulation, a couple tie wraps, and a few bungees. Solid, even at 85mph.
