I have been trying to get the lugs off of my wheels to install spacers under my springs. The only problem is that I can't get the tires off of my rover, because the damn lug nuts WON'T BUDGE. My mechanic put them on with an impact driver, and all i have is the manual hand socket remover. I've tried W-D40'ing them, liquid wrench, etc...not even a little turn. My friend, who weighs 275lbs was jumping on the socket wrench, and they wouldnt even turn. Is there some great secret on how o get these things off, cause this is ridiculous!!!!!I wanna put my spacers on!!!!!!!!!!!!! As always, any help is appreciated, Thanks, Ben Ziskind 89 RRC |

1/2" drive socket and about a 3' long cheater bar on the end. When (if) you put them back on grease (or never seize) the wheel studs, that will make any future attempts easier. |

I would use a breaker bar verses a rachet. It takes alot of torque to break those free. I had the same thing happen when I had new tires put on. I now keep the breaker and socket loaded for future attempts. David Hobbs 88 RRC |

Go kick your "mechanic" in the nuts! Torque spec is like 96 ft lbs - not "lets see how tight my new impact wrench will get 'em" If he put them on, let him get them off (and then follow all the above advice) Sorry for the rant, but I hate monkeys with impact wrenches. Bill |

Bill's right-I've gotten stuck by the side of the road before with multiple broken wrenches and had it towed to tire store and raised hell for wasting my time and money. I now loosen abd re-torque lugs when I get home from tire store just to prevent future aggravation! GregH |

Ok, finally got them off. I went back to my mechanic, he loosened all the lugs, then I tightened em' with the 3' breaker bar he gave me. We also made a pretty useful tool for the next time i have to remove the lugs. Using the original socket wrench that comes with the RRC, we took off the bendable extension piece, and cut off the two tabs that hold it in place. We then placed the wrench into the breaker bar. This gives you a ton of leverage, and makes it so you dont have to buy a new socket, wrench, etc.... Just thought I'd share this tip with everyone. Hope it helps........... Good call witht the breaker bar by the way!!! Thanks as always to everyone, Ben |
