I got great set of rechargeable tools but I am going to return them for a new set of jacks and a Dremel. I am still a believer that some tools should run off from 110v or air. My sister gave me a nifty 3-Stooges bottle opener that talks upon use, that was quite different. Overall it's been a great day with a fire roaring, music playing and happiness abound! Happy Holidays all, enjoy your friends and family!

I took some Aleve for my back, and powered by too many chocolate truffles too early in the day, I'm going out to get me some clean stalls! David is in a Percocet-induced coma, alseep while the Comedy Central SNL marathon drones on. Later on I hope to enjoy some Peace on Earth (G). I'm afraid this Christmas is a little different for us, but that's O.k. Nice dinners and perhaps some gifts will come later in the week. I did get some nice things from my students, ornaments, edible goodies and a really generous Tower Records gift certificate. Always nice to be appreciated. Hope everyone has a great day.

Karen :)

Oooooooo, even *I* know Specialized is a great brand! Congrats, Clif!

I just Merry Christmased my own daggone self (G). A friend unexpectedly emailed me a half.com gift certificate, so I ordered two CDs. Then on my own tab I employed the BIN feature on ebay and bought a small lot of LOTR merchandising. THEN I went over to the noblecollection.com site and bought another LOTR piece, something I'd bought two of my gal pals for Christmas, both huge LOTR fans. So funny, I'd seen this piece in the film and thought, "Dayum, they should merchandise that!" When I saw the brochure inside the VHS case of "Fellowship", there it all was. Evidently I wasn't done, because in prowling that same site, I found a piece from their Leonardo Da Vinci collection I really liked, so, have CC, will charge, LOL! Now, out to feed horses before I do any more damage. Talk about pent up, I feel SO much better now, LOL!

Karen :)

Should be insert not "inerst" sorry...

I know they aren't adventure or wilderness quality but I actually found a good place for the surco racks, low prices and free shipping on top of that. www.accessconnect.com if anyone else is interested. Unfortunately they shorted me some mounting hardware (obviously don't sell many gutter mounts for Rovers) hopefully this will be resolved w/ no problems though.

Hey Clif,

The Scapel is a new 1000 version. Here's the link:

Funny thing, I did not receive anything rover related this year. I scored a lot of Dewalt power tools and stuff.

Not a single Rover-related item. Did get a nice set of offset handle box end wrenches from my dad. Wife got enough stuff to keep her busy and the kids, well let's just say their haul was plentiful. I actually scored some time to myself yesterday afternoon and watched Private Ryan for about the 10th time on dvd.

Cheers and Happy New Year!!

I received the Camel Trophy 88. It rocked. Now I'm super hooked. That was the only rover goodie. It's time to hit those websites for some ordering. You know what would rock? A Camel Trophy Game for PS2. You could choose the destination, truck, team, etc. If you know someone in the gaming industry, make the call.

Well, I had a great christmas. I got to see my parents who visited. Haven't seen them in 6 months. My Mom got her wish for a white christmas, as we got about 6 inches of snow or more. I received more presents than I probably deserved, but from a rover related standpoint, the only thing I received was a Tool Wrap from Rovers North that I pointed to one day in the catalog. Very nice. Also got a nice 10 piece set of Gear Wrench ratcheting box wrenches to go in it. :)

I personally treated myself to a new GPS from Ebay, as well as a new CB antenna. :) Exciting, I know...............

Hope everyone had as nice of a Holiday as I did. :)

Short and sweet:
Big deep rubber mats that hopefully will hold in ALL the beach sand and save me vacuuming constantly.
Fold away windscreen sun visor so no more of the dash cracks while Im in the shops.
A Jet Washer.
A sponge.
Some Meguires kit.
A chamois.

In fact in my family, if you dont own a car you probably wont get any presents....

Pete - not very spoilt.

Facom tools and a great pair of Steiner Optiks to keep in the rover. I bought myself a DeWalt drill and more Facom tools to go with the ones I got.
I hope I don't shoot my eye out.

I forgot to add something to my christmas post above. Santa also brought me a replacement set of Land Rover valve stem caps, to replace the ones that were stolen.

These are neat in that they are theft proof and require a key to take them off. I wouldn't have bought them again myself, but Santa was watching out for me. Hopefully he gave the punks that stole my other set a bag of coal. :)

Seems a lot of DeWalt fans here:) Are they really as good as I think they are? I got one too, btw - an impact wrench, so I don't have to mess around with the compressor hose I'm too lazy to install outside!

Oh, and a Lava Lamp straight out of the '70s :)

Dean

Ps Greg - what kind of low-life dicksplash would steal your valve caps? LOL

Dean, I have been wondering the same thing. They were stolen about 6 months ago. There is a thread floating around on here somewhere about it. The little bastards took 4 of the 5 prior caps that I bought when I got the truck. Not the end of the world, but it pisses you off when someone does it. The ones I got for Christmas come as a set of 4, so I am giving them a try. I am only fearful of not being able to get them off or loosing the key.

Kitchen table and chairs. Well, I got half and my wife got the other half.

I did steal some time to work on my tire carrier though.

Dean,
DeWalt or Makita are the standards for quality among contractor tools. I work around construction sites (inspecting) and I talked to a lot of workman about their drills before I bought one. I looked for the guys doing good work with nice stuff and they all seemed to be using and recommending DeWalt. Plus the EE boys use DeWalt so how could it not be the cooooolest right? Can't wait to really get mine out and in action. Wish I'd had it for the last few projects.

let me know how you like that electric impact wrench, I've been thinking about it.

Not to get the thread too far off topic, but how do porter cable and milwaukee compare? I have a 12 volt makita drill and circular saw set that I have had for almost 5 years now. I just now bought a replacement battery for the drill, but I can tell the drill is getting tired and looking for retirement. I'm going to be looking at a brand that I can buy other tools to use the batteries. I've got a new porter cable router that I'm extremely pleased with, but am curious about their battery stuff vs. dewalt and others.

Thanks,
gp

The battery stuff is a bit different than the rest of the product lines for Milwaukee and Porter Cable. Their corded products are top notch along with Hitachi, well Hitachi's high end stuff. Most of Dewalt/Porter Cable/Milwaukee's procuts are made in the US, while most of their battery products are made in Asia. Although Milwaukee's cordless drills are made in Germany, can't figure out that one. You really can't go wrong with the big guys. I've owned a lot of Dewalt stuff and really liked them, but now I'm buying a lot of Milwaukee based off of reviews I've read online and in Fine Homebuilding and from different contractors I've talked to, including my father who has been a carpenter for 35+ years.

Oh well, jsut my .02

The DeWalts I have seem to be made all over the world - every one is from a different country! Italy, UK and USA are a few I can remember.

Jack the impact wrench is fine, feels solid and works well. The only problem is there's no torque setting. While this may be the norm (I don't know) for electric impacters, my air wrench had it and was MUCH cheaper!

Black and decker and Dewalt are the same company...they all come off the same line..

unless your using the thing every day, and use it for your profession, a black and decker 14 or 18v drill will do your trick, and you will save a but load of money

Though, if it was a christmas present, thats a different story:)
