Haha, that's what we need! I have a video that has alot of him talking....it is the 50th ann. video. From what I could gather, he seemed like a pretty interesting guy.

First Ford buying LR now this. LR is passing on. God bless the man. I am keeping my 98 Disco, the last real LR.

well some of the early 99s too......

I'm afraid you don't know what you started there Peter. QUICK EVERYONE HIDE I HEAR THE DII GUYS W/ THEIR FAT ASSES COMING THIS WAY. :) :) :) :)

-Just kidding guys, the way I figure part of the Rover heritage has always been innovation and it just so happens that now things are headed more towards the electronic/computer driven variety. I personally like the simplicity of my '98 but any rover makes me smile especially when the owner loves it as much as I love mine.

As long as Mr. Lucas and his whole family is gone to the great beyond then the automotive world is safe.

Is the "lard arse" on the DII purely the result of a shorter WB? I notice that while the rear section is longer, the rear door is also shorter, leading me to believe that all they did was shift the rear axle fwd. Or am I wide of the mark there?

peter- i know that DIIs have a wider track, and i'm pretty sure that if anything, the rear axle didn't move at all. if it did, you wouldn't be able to get into the rear seat. i was talking to a sales rep at the DC National Auto Show and we got talking about the new D90. he told me the guy in charge of the project left LR and that for all intents and purposes, the project has been scrapped. i asked him about the new Disco and he said "platform sharing" is all he knew was gonna happen. he seemed as distraught over hearing that as i did. he really wanted to see the 90 come back too. i was a Jeep owner (and still am) before LR and i've seen the brand i loved take a major dive and it looks to continue the trend. no it seems LR is following suit. in a few years time, there won't be anything out there that is truly off-road capable.

10 signs ford has taken over:

10.) Country western star singing "Land Rover Tough"

9.) More cup holders.

8.) Disco offered in 2WD version.

7.) Eddie Bauer edition.

6.) Discos bursting into flames in rear end collisions.

5.) 20 inch wheels offered as an option.

4.) New Disco III based on a Crown Vic Platform.

3.) Bigger Expedition model for soccer moms.

2.) New Discovery pickup truck.

1.) Even more cupholders.

#8 -Ouch!!!

#2 wouldn't be so bad provided it isn't combined w/ #7 or #4 though.

#8 wouldn't surpise me very much. Who would ever thought the Jeep would make a 2WD Cherokee and Wagonner before Chrysler took over.

Peter, you forgot two...
# The psuedo-Nissan aluminum tubed roof rack on top and
# the 4 door pickup version with a stately 4 foot long bed for all those soccer balls and gatorade containers.

DI's & DII's have the same wheelbase. DII's rear door seems smaller because the wheel wells are larger than the DI's.

Todd,
Jeep did LONG before Chrysler was involved.... Some Willys Wagons, all of the VJ Jeeps were 2wd from the factory (though many were converted), the DJs, and some FSJs.... and the Commanche and the Cherokee were available in 2wd before Chrysler bought AMC....

Jason,
Sounds like you just described a D110 Crewcab... :)

lol....

Nothing wrong with 2wd, as long as its engageable;) In fact I'd love that on the disco. The series rovers had this, saved a bomb on gas too on the road.
