this may sound stupid to some nut here i go anyhow. i just changed the rotors and pads on my disco. the truck has a high pitch squeal at highway speeds. is that from glazing? or is something else. it disappears when i put on the brakes and the pads make contact . it sounds as though they slightly rub on the rotors and it creates a harmonic squeal. mutch like a wet wine glass rim...anyhow any advice. should i rough up the rotr surface and the pad surface. any way to prevent this in future? thanks |

Try anti squeal grease on the back of the pads. |

Bruce, I had the same with my 97 Disco and went almost insane trying to stop it. In the end I succeeded by replacing the springs that separate the pads in the calipers with better quality and slightly more pressure. It seemed that the original springs lost some tension when calipers got hot and allowed the pads to lightly touch the rotors. If your problem is the same as mine you will also notice that the squeal stops momentarily when you suddenely turn the steering wheel left or right. Gerald Parker |
