My new to me Disco (96 SD) came with Bridgestone Duelers - 245/75/16. I assumed they were LT, but in reality they are Pmetric. They only have 5K on them, so they are essentially brand new. I want an LT (thinking Dunlop RV or RT) and would like to trade them in. I went to a Big O to see about trade-ins (they have Dunlop) and the tire guy said "why, a P tire will hold up just as well off-road as an LT tire. The only reason I'd change is for a more aggressive tread." He said with today's construction techniques, LT tires are only needed for heavy loads. He has every reason to say, "yes, buy the LT from me" but he was convincing me to keep the duelers.

I could listen to him and save money, but my gut and my brain says an LT tire would be more durable in rough conditions (Arizona has lots of sharp rocks off-road.)

What is the consensus? thanks.

Jeffry

I used Dueller AT's up until the rainy season (I'm in West Africa). Great tyre but the side walls are not really up to hard punishment and that's your weak point.

I have used BF Goodrich MT's and I believe you have them in the States - never let me down once and they did get punished!

Regards
