HELP!!!The engine in the warranted, 95Range Rover, 40 I presently lease and have been leasing for the past 2-½ years melted. My Range Rovers service records show I have performed services both necessary and suggested exclusively by Land Rover. They did a hose recall last year and topped off the ra 4 months ago. i was told the hose blew off and that the engine failure is my fault? i just had the hoses checked last month. I am not trained to look for this!!!! AM i f_cked? |

Who says it is your fault? What type of warranty? All work done by a LR Dealer carries a 12month 12,000 mile warranty. However, if you drove it after it overheated it is your fault. But if you can prove the hose fell off as a result of the recall being done improperly then you probably can make things work out in your favor. Bob |

Im beginning to think this is hopeless. The service manager said the assured warrantee will not cover the damage. He also said its my fault. I need a long blockthe engine has no compression. This recalled Hose campaign was incorrectly performed 18 months ago. Can I prove it? The only proof I have that is that the radiator called for antifreeze two months before the hose popped off. Isnt it a sealed system? Could this prove the hose was not connected correctly? Thanks for responding Oh yea.should a used 1995 motor cost $10,000 installed? |

If its a LR warranty complain to LR owner care (# in owners manual). Call the warranty company directly. Get out your contract and go over it. Any LR extended warranty should cover a new engine, the catch is why it needs a new engine, I assume the block dropped a liner. Unless you told the service person you overheated it and continued to drive, the repair should be covered. They could potentially screw you if a hose failed and that caused the overheat (is this the case). If so your service person is an idiot for mentioning it to the warranty company. No compression on all eight? Do not give up. Do give up on the hose recall idea though 18 months it too long ago. A new 95 4.0 long block should be ~10k installed, not a used one. Bob |

The LR service idiot said he told the LR extended warrantee company about the hose. I called ..they wont cover hoses or damage caused by a faulty hose. I just had my RR towed to a local garage hoping to get a cheaper used motor and Im not happy. LR wont install used motors. What else can I do? Dropped liner is it too late? |

The best way is to get a shop to say that the hose popped off due to another fault or better yet get the service writer to call the warranty company back do it for you. Here is how I would play it. Go back and say look, one of two things is happening, you are paying for my engine because you installed a hose improperly or the warranty company is. Did the warranty company inspect it? It is perfectly reasonable for the service person to say that the head gasket blew (as evidenced by the need to top up without any visible leaks) and presurized the system, blowing the hose. Removal of heads should bear this out if it is the case (head gasket failure between a combustion chamber and a coolant passage). BTW where are you? And why is it that they think you need a long block no compression could be a blown gasket. Bob |

The warrantee company didnt inspect it they just shot down my request for service based on what LR said. I already pulled it off the LR lot. I can play it like you said but is it too late? |

No, take it to another dealer. If you are lucky your dealer did not even call the warranty company. Bob |
