I am sure this has been discussed before....but...

I know that every brand of vehicle has a "favorite" brand/type of spark plug. I know that I will never put anything but NGK into my Nissan.

When I got a set of plugs, along with the rest of the gear for a tune-up, they gave me CHampion plugs. Are these the plugs rovers like? If you have had good luck with any other brands, please let me know.

champions are what LR specs, but have always used bosch in all my cars/trucks. will not spend the extra $ for the plus 4's though. copper or platinums are good.

The 'genuine' plug for Rover is Champion.

The original plug is a RN11YCC, which has both a central copper core, and a copper core in the side-electrode. This plug is a European plug, and isn't available in the states outside of importers (LRNA, RN, etc. etc. etc.). The RN11YC4 is the closest, but it doesn't have a copper core in the side terminal. (The RN11YC4 is also listed as a 322, if I remember correctly).

Now, Champion has a Platinum plug, though, that has the copper core in both the center and the side terminal, that is available in the US. Look up the platinum version of the 322, and you 'should' have as close to the specified spark plug as possible.

FWIW...

I ran a Champion Copper (Truck?) plug and then switched to Platinum +4s cause I got em cheap. Can't say I noticed a difference.

I wouldn't think that you'd notice anything short-term. The difference should be that, once they have some real mileage on them, the plain ones will start to putter out, whereas the double-copper core ones should continue to deliver the same level of uumph...

NGK's are great - have them in both Rovers. Also a friend with a British shop only put in NGK's

I use NKG part# BPR5EVX aka stock# 4875. You have to order these plugs at $10 each, but they are built like a tank platinum plugs. DO NOT leave the store with NKG Split Fire plugs.

I also use Bosch platinums(not "plus fours") and they very cleverly make a platinum plug for less than $2.

Champion Plats in mine - emailed the champ rep in UK to verify they are ok in older V8s (well, 97 3.9).
