I would like to replace my plugs and wires. Should I stick with the stock LR parts from LR, or are there better aftermarket plugs/wires that will add performance?

i just replaced my plugs with Bosch 2 Platinums or whatever they are called. I noticed immediate change in my performance but I had a couple of fouled plugs. They weren't the cheapest but the only option I had at the local auto parts store. Anyhow, I am replacing plug wires with OEM stuff from Nathan at www.discountrovers.com as the dealer wants like $90 or so for plug wires. I had the regular Bosch Platinums in before and couldn't tell much difference from factory plugs. Later.. Rob

Stock plugs are fine... they are Champions, but they're RN11YCC which aren't available here except through Land Rover, it's a European-only plug, and isn't cheap. RN11YC4 is really close, and cheap, but it doesn't have a copper core in the side terminal. It's also listed as Champion 322. A Champion 3322 is the same size, but is a platinum plug that has a copper core in the side terminal in addition to the center. And, they're cheap compared to most other platinum plugs. I'd get them, not for the platinum (I change 'em out more frequently anyway), but just for the double copper cores.

For wires, http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/offers.htm. They usually have specials for Land Rovers - currently, the specials are down, but should shortly return.... they should cost a bit less than stock, and be better than stock.

IMHO, FWIW....

I went with the Magnecor 8.5mm using their Rover deal and Bosch + 4s on my 98 LSE. (overkill I know) There was a big difference, especially under load. Fuel mileage seems to be a bit better too. My old stock stock wires were so bad though that if you looked under the hood at night with the engine running you could see lots of arcing and the wires glowed in spots.
The people at Magnecor were very friendly and all the wires were the right size, though slightly shorter than stock. Plus if you subscribe to the "a decal on my car gives me 5 extra horsepower theory" They included a nice magnecor decal with the package.
The stock wire harnessess are a bit of a tight fit on 8.5s though so a run to your local parts store may be in order.

I would go with the Magnacor wires but many ignition manufacturers remark that a Plain Ol'Copper core plug is the best... I use Autolites in everything that uses spark plugs with no trouble. I have also had Champion plugs outright fail... Costing me a cat...
