I have to say everyone ar Land Rover Manhattan is nice; however, the work was marginal at best. My local GMC dealer treats me just as nice and does better work.
I was dissapointed with the quality of the work done. The headlight was aimed incorrectly. They replaced the o-ring on the power steering pump and did not clean off the power steering pump or the fluid that had leaked under the truck. I still have a burning oil smell. They did not yet get the parts to fix the drivers side door since 12/19/02 and did not tell me until the truck was given to me telling me it was done.
I was told that cleaning the power steering fluid that leaked under the truck was not their job. I told them that I did not agree with that answer. How can the tech know if the leak is fixed if he did not clean the fluid that leaked away? I was also told that they are not allowed to use gunk or brake cleaner to clean this up due to EPA regulations. I asked why they did not use Safety Kleen and a parts brush.
Overall, in my opinion, they failed on 3 of seven items. I don't think that is a good success rate. They best part was that Land Rover North America called me up on the ride home to ask if I was happy with the service I had recieved. I told them no. I also told them that I will sell the truck soon if I cannot get a Land Rover trailer harness. LR manhattan told me that they may not warranty electrical, computers, etc., if a non Land Rover trailer harness is used. I told Land Rover North America that I felt like I should re-do the Monty's Python's Search for the Holy Grail and call it Brian's Search for the Bloody Harness. The Land Rover NA person actually thought it was funny and told me she would try to locate one for me. Her estimate was early Feb.
Overall, the Disco is a really nice truck. It's just not doing what I need it to do right now. Without the trailer harness, I cannot tow the Jetski or the bike, so I am stuck using the Dually. If I am going to use the dually, I'll just get rid of the Disco, buy a nice used Vette and resign myself to the fact that the dually has to be used to tow everything and move groups of people. The Disco is nice; but, Land Rover does not make ownership easy.

Just my thoughts. Thanks for listening.

Brian, I will tell you what I did and have told several others to do about the harness. I had the same problem as you, needed a wiring harness (didn't know about the method in the tech section here yet) and the dealer didn't have one. I just got out my owners manual and turned to the section where they list all the dealers and started calling them untill I found one who had one stuck back in their parts department and got them to ship it to me (mine came from New Orleans). You might want to give this a shot, as you might have better luck bypassing some of the LRNA bull-shit. Hopefully it will work for you but unfortunatly I got mine at the begining of the shortage so everyone might be out of them by now.

Hell if you want it bad enough look up some dealers in Europe, it doesn't cost that much to get stuff shipped over, and I don't know about genuine parts but I have found aftermarket accesories to be much cheaper over there. (just make sure they take off the vat tax).

You do have other options for the harness. I used the Walmart $30 solution. It was a snap to install, works perfectly, and if some investigation were done, I wouldn't be surprised to find that the inner bits are the same as the factory LR job.

The LR harness had a black box that had many diodes in it. I have seen vehicles come in with electrical problems after installing aftermarket trailer wiring. The RR 38A chassis is great for burning up $900 BECMs with aftermarket trailer wiring. If you add your own in I would recommend adding diodes into the circut to prevent backfeeds which have been known to fry LR ECUs. Also, unplug the wiring before putting a boat into the water as 8 out of 10 problems I have come across start from this.

Thanks for the replies. I know installing the harness is easy. I had planned to run a module from a key on accessory and use the lights for the signal to the module. The worry was what to do about the warranty. I do not mind spending $200 to get the real Land Rover part and protect my warranty. It just seems that Land Rover is making this impossible.
I like the truck; but, since I have to use the dually for all towing still, it does not make sense to own it. I have Land Rover Manhattan looking for one right now. I have tried finding one in Cary NC, Indianapolis, Atlanta and Virginia, all to no avail. Oh well, it seems like the Disco is like owning a hot rod, always searching for parts and never quite done.

Brian:
I'm an environmental engineer. It's bullshit they can't use brake cleaner or gunk, all they have to do is clean it up afterwards. They might not want to pay for disposal and deal with that headache, but their response was and is bullshit.

Also, there are any of a number of less "Hazardous" cleaning agents they could have used. I agree with you that they should have cleaned it up. And, it is no surprise Indianapolis couldn't help you. Unless you're driving a Calloway Rangie and dress like they expect you to, they won't give you the time of day. Two friends of mine (one a local attorney who owns many Rovers, the other a local contractor) with combined incomes exceeding $500,000 stormed out of that dealership due to snotty and snobbish attitudes. I have been treated similarly, in spite of driving in in a Rover.
