List,

Has anyone posted a procedure for D1 Transmission Filter Replacement? My Haynes manual says to have a dealer do it...

Any insight appreciated on if it's a DIY thing or not...if it is a DIY thing and no one's done it already, i'll make a web page of it.

Thanks as always,

Hunter

You got to disconnect the exhaust Y-pipe and the crossmember to drop the transmission pan..

You decide if it's a DIY.

you may have to spread the frame just a tad to get the cross member out.

ask around but unless your trans oil smells burnt, I would not worry about the filter... it can cause more problems than it fixes.. I would also not just drain the trans fluid and refill, you will be leaving 40% of the old oil in the sumps. This "old oil" and the new oil will not mix well and could cause even more problems.. if you are going to change the trans oil.. then take it to a place that will "flush" the system... this forces all the old fluid out and replaces as close to 100% of the old oil as you possibly can..

a trans flush should only be about $75

Dropping the exhaust and crossmember is easy. However they are quite heavy so be careful if you do it. I did all that when I swapped out a Transmission on a 94 Disco. The exhaust and crossmember was the easy part!!!!
