Ok you guys Ive done searches and trawled the gallery but been inconclusive in my findings.
I want to know what different sets of tyres will look like on my beast before I buy a set. I only do about 20% offroad (does that me a poseur or a poser - answers on a postcard) but for beach/dunes work Im finding I need bit more flotation. I also want them to look good. If anyone has 5 secs to post an image of their truck with the tyre size and whether its lifted and by how much that would be bloody handy. Im really only after 235/85 or 245/75s. Mines on stock springs right now. Also, can anyone tell me how much benefit there would be in a body lift rather than spring lift? If a body lift avoids the rotoflex/transmission issues, this seems like a more sensible alternative as far as getting tyre clearance goes although it doesnt seem like that many people do it?
Ta.

I'm on 235/85/16 MT's with OME HD lift. I don't think that these tires will fit w/o a lift. I didn't do any cutting on my truck, I did the rear fender relocation illustrated in the tech section above. I had a friend with 245/75/16's on his stock sprung truck, and they rubbed like hell until he cut alot. Here's a pic..

Rob did you have to get different bump stops? Do have any rubbing at all?

Didn't do a thing but move out the rear fenders, no rubbing at all(full stuff or steering wheel fully locked either way) Passenger side springs have sagged now 2.5 inches and I do rub my front bumper end cap. But, that should be remedied in the next couple of weeks with new springs. Here's another pic with it stuffed going through a ditch up into the woods at one of my various odd seismic monitoring locations.Text description

Thanks guys. Good stuff. Danno, the 245s, are they 75s or 85s? They look pretty good in the "back to 245s" shot on the link you posted. How much lift have you got. Ill check out the fender bending suggestion of Roberts and maybe investigate going for 245/75s with moved fenders.... No thoughts on the body lift?

There's been a big hash-out on the body-lift vs suspension liftr before, it'll be in the archives.

In short,
a) it's so quick and easy to swap springs on a Disco
b) Body lifts don't help a lot by themselves
c) A suspension should be done first, then a body lift afterward to add a bit extra if needed...
d) A body lift is a lot more work to install for what you get....

With a 2" lift, which is all that is needed for 235/85R16 tires, you will *probably* not have much vibe, if you do it's probably going to be the tires. NOT TRUE in all cases.... but, for the most part, a 2" lift isn't bad but a 3" lift will probably cause vibes (again, NOT ALL of them do, there are fellas out there with 3" lifts w/ no vibes, but, they usually consider themselves lucky).

W/ 245/75R16 tires on the '99 Disco SD (Series I), I didn't need to lift it to get them under there, I did trim a bit, though....

IMHO, FWIW, YMMV.....

those were 245/75's w/ OME MD springs. i had the 245/75's on with stock springs and had minimal rubbing at full stuff. relocating the fender would have solved that, but i trimmed to fit the 235/85's.

Garrett ,
You should have stopped by for a lager or two ! Lot -O- Ice at Camelback as usual ? Best skiing is when you can see the reflection of the lights off of Margie's at night.

And another thread is hi-jacked..........

Peter,

if your focus is on driving on sand, I would suggest you go to 265/75R16 BFG All-Terrains with a 2" suspension lift and do the usual trimming (first cut is the deepest...).
A Body Lift is a lot of work if done properly and doesn't come cheap. Search the archives on that matter.

it was my b-day weekend Evan, so i was getting 'special' attention!! :) too busy for lagers. haha. runs were actually in pretty good shape and not much ice. slopes were not skiied off too much, due to lack of agressive (good) skiers i guess. haha. lots of spastic NYer's and 'shush bunnies' on the slopes though.
