My factory 92'RR radio is stuck in the "mode" where it requires to be turned on for an hour with the engine running to be re-set. According to the the factory radio manual this is required after the code was not correctly entered 3 times (insert wife's name here!). It just has "code" on the panel and holding "band" does not help either as someone suggested earlier. With other problems in the engine compartment I do not dare venture an hour from home or run it a full hour just yet. I disconnected the battery and tried to re-set it again but it did not help. How can you bring the radio back to the original default position? Thanks.

So you're saying that holding down the BAND button for 5 seconds or more does not reset the radio and allow you to enter the code? That's strange cause it's always worked for me.

Just curious, what other problems are you having in the engine compartment?

John-
Nope, holding "band" does not work. I thought that was odd because it's generally used to solve this on most radios. I wonder if I remove the radio if there is a re-set somewhere? Other problems are the usual leaks that are getting attended to. New this week is a very small bit of anti-freeze leaking out near the front right, below the altenator. I need to chase it down, hopes its only a hose. Also I swear the altenator is making a "tapping" noise which has me confused a bit. Plus I have an intake gasket leak but no electrical (yet). I could continue but these are the big ones so far.

You need to leave the radio on with the key in position 1 (accessory) for at least 1 hour. Then you can reenter code...assuming it's the right one. Removing radio does nothing nor does disconnecting the battery.

Alex and Coded-
I have the right code because I have had to do it before because of battery removal, not an in-correct code entry. I'll give it a try, thank you for the input.

I just bought my Rover yesterday & the radio is stuck on 1 channel. I read about a code in previous postings, what is it or does each one have a different code?

Donna-
The code is generally found in the radio owners manual, hopefully you have it. It must be entered to re-set the radio. Each radio has a separate code for security reasons. If the radio is removed (stolen) or the battery is un-hooked it must be re-entered to operate. This renders it useless to theives. If you do not have the code maybe the dealer can retreive it for you. If it's "stuck" on channel 1 this MIGHT solve it, unless it's a mechanical problem. I highly recommend getting a owners manual and reading the entire book. It can help you solve small problems cheaply and give you a better understanding of your Rover. There are many other books and manuals that are more in-depth if you want to do repairs or just want to know more. Good luck and enjoy your new purchase!
