Hi Everyone: I had a problem with my trans on my 1995 Discovery with an Automatic. For some reason, when I was driving my trans felt like it was in neutral and my disco would not accelerate anymore although the trans was in drive. What is wierd is that I could move my gear selector from park, reverse, neutral, drive, etc. and nothing would happen. Eventually, I started to hear what sounded like metal on metal coming from my trans, so I had it towed. The next day, I got in disco and it was fine and there was no noise. Has anyone experienced this problem? I am concerned because I don't want to get stuck again...Any advice would be great. Thanks |

What happened is that the govenor valve can stick either freezing you in a gear or in neutral. It will clear itself, but be prepared for it to happen again when cold and every time you drain and refill. Mine been doing it for 40-50k. BTW I don't get the noise though..... 95 Disco 123k |

Hi Chris: Thanks for the answer. Would this happen while I am driving or only during idle as I was driving when this happened.. Thanks |

Sounds like the transfer case jumped out of Hi Range, then somehow got put back. |

Hi Everyone: I got my Disco back from the dealer and they could not find any problems with my transmission. They said it drives fine...Oh well, I hope this was a one time problem... |

I resently had a similar problem. I traced it back to the transfer case dropping into netural, It seams to be a fine line between engaged and not you cannot physically feel a difference in the transfere lever position. I had driven about 5 miles before it dropped out of gear. |
