Hi All, Sometimes my rear windows work fine and other times they don't respond to either the front or rear window control switches. When they don't respond, I shut off the vehicle, remove fuses for the rear windows (in fuse box) and re-insert them and start up the vehicle. The fuses look fine. This fixes the problem for a short time and while driving again the rear windows stop functioning. Any ideas on what to try or look for would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi Tom, Thanks for your response. I had a feeling it may be that but earlier today I changed the fuse (although the old one seemed to test fine on a tester although it had some oxidation on it's contacts. I put in a new fuse and so far no rear window failure...but I'll wait a couple of days and wait and see if the rear windows stop fuctioning again. I have my fingers crossed. Thanks! |

If the fuse does not solve the problem, you may need a window control ECU, located somwhere behind the glove box and costs several hundred dollars. I've had this too but waranty covered it. Apparently a common problem with Disco I's, I suppose inherited from the disco dash design. |

Hi Arthur, I appreciate the info. Just out of curiosity, when a window control ELC is going bad (still intermitantly working if thats possible), does it make a occasional "clicking" sound? The reason I ask is sometimes I hear such a sound behind the glove box. Thanks! |

David, My rear window problem was intermittent but I did not hear clicks behind the glove compartment then at any rate. Was the fan on? Sometimes my fan makes an on and off clicking sound - maybe associated with the fan speed switch is what you're hearing? If you would remove the cardboard under the passenger side dash or drop down the glove box, you'd see many connectors back there that can vibrate and cause clicking sound from driving. Perhaps you can find a loose connector behind the glove box to the ECU. But since the dealer did the ECU replacement, I never had to locate the ECU. If you still have EAS, when the compressor kicks in the adjust level, it makes a click sound. I hope as part of your spring conversion, EAS was completely disabled. I don't know anything about coil conversion though. |

Hi Authur, Thanks again for your feedback. I'll take a look at the ECU (connectors) and see if anything is loose. The master EAS switch under the seat was turned off as far as I know, so the system should be completely disabled. I do know the two (up & down) lights on the dashboard switches for EAS are lit as well as the EAS symbol light near the speedometer & tach but the system should be off. I'm hoping with my changing the fuse for the electric windows, may stop their intermitant failure...and so far so good but tomorrows another day. Thanks again! David |
