I have a very strange problem with the locking logic of the tailgate of my 95RR LWB. I realize the tailgate is part of the central locking system. If the tailgate is fully closed but unlocked and I unlock one of the front doors with the keys the tailgate "locks" (just the opposite of what sound happen). If at that point I lock the doors of course the tailgate stays locked. If I once again unlock the doors (one of the front doors) with the key, the tailgate doesn't unlock as it should (the tailgate lock is not locked in the bypass mode). In other words with the tailgate unlocked, it will not lock by locking one of the front doors with the key but will lock when I unlock one of the front doors and will at that point remain locked no matter how many times I lock or unlock the front doors. I get dizzy thinking about it but any ideas whats happening? Thanks David |

your problem lies some where in the spelling of lucas. just live with it or spend the bucks to have a qualified electrican go through the electrical components. try cleaning your grounds. there should be four. clean them up and use vasolene to stop corrosin. our range rover does all sorts of weird things ie doors lock by them selfs, doors lock while adjusting heat controls, high beams work by them selfs, etc.... |

Thanks Phantom, I appreciate the response. Yes, I can see how the RR can do some weird things (as I have been experiencing them recently. I hope to purchase an electrical manual for the 95 LWB soon. You mentioned the four grounds. Are they easy to get at, as I have no idea where they are located? If you can steer me in the right direction, that would be great. Thanks! Dave |

ground one is on negitive side of battery it goes to the frame. just follow it there and unbolt clean and replace ground two is from the starter motor to the body. follow from the coil to starter clean and replace. i cant think off hand where the other two are im thinking on the hood, but dont recall. these grounds are cables or straps and cant be mistaken for any thing else. try to locate all of these grounding straps and inspect them. they do corrode over time. hpfully this helps. ground wires are usally black in colour, and are bolted or screwed to metal. check them all. im sure that a manual will defintally help so pick it and and good luck. |

Hi Chris, Thanks for all the info. There is a good chance that this may be the reson I'm seeing quite a few intermitant electrical problems. I'll tackle it on the weekend and hope it clears things up. Thanks again! |
