ok, I have a great story for anyone who whines about all the little problems with land rovers.

I currently (currently meaning that I haven't got the settlement check for the car yet)have a 97 dico.

i read this message board regularly and often complain about the little things that I have had to fix (from window arms to the clock light).

On a recent trip back from skiing in Whistler BC with my nephew and two daughters, we were involved in an accident.

The driver in the other car mistook the untrecanddian freeway for the autobaun and lost control of his car. He hit us on the passenger front at 85mph (we were going 65mph) and we spun off the freeway doing 2 complete 360's before slamming into the median and flipping over and ending up rested on the driver side. I am happy to say that we all crawled out the passenger front door (which was facing the sky) without injury.

Lord knows how eternally grateful I am that we were driving our discovery. I truely believe that if we were in any other SUV we would not be so lucky.

As a question to anyone who reads this, what is the quality difference between the range rover and discovery and are ther any problems with newer model years of the disco ii. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Very Happy to hear you are all well and healthy. Thats a scary story. If you happen to come accross any pictures I'd love to see them. (Mainly just to see how well the car held up) I'm constantly amazed at how well the Disco holds up in major accidents and roll-overs.
as for the other Rovers, I'm sure the newer RR's and D2's are just as Robust but I'm not sure about the RRC. It's robust but I dont know about crash worthiness and safety.
The D2 should be even safer than a D1 I would think, but i have no way of knowing this other than logic. Cars always improve in safety.
Glad your alright

The RRC, DI, DII, and RR 38A models all crash really well due to the sturdy construction of the chassis. The jury is out on the Freelander and 03 RR because I haven't seen any crash.
Have 3 stories to share
1. Man was in his disco at a toll both stopped and a ford taurus hit him from behind at 65 mph thinking it was the e-pass lane. The impact pushed the DI sideways and over some concrete pillars about 4' high. The 2 in the taurus were air-lifted off and the DI drove in for an estimate on the repair work!
2. A disco II owner was driving home at about 3:00 am ( the bars also close at this time, concidence) when he lost control and plowed thru a concrete wall at an est 60-65 mph by police. The man walked away from the accident but wanted to bitch that the air bags did not go off. The vehicle suffered heavy damage but saved his life.
3. a lady was up in North Carolina when she was run off the road and over a steep drop but not completly straight down. She pin-ponged off some trees but her kids and her were both safe. She called her salesmen from North Carolina and ordered a truck exactly like her first one because it crashed so well. She has owned a disco ever since.

let me add another story to it.
4. a lady drove a rental D2 at 70mph on a gravel road and lost control. she managed to bleed off some speed, but went off the crown and landed sideways in the dirt, at about 50mph. Her husband bought a couple of plastic trim pieces, and there was no other damage whatsoever.
