My front shocks are shot on my '96 disco, however, the rear ones still have some life left to them. I'm debating switching the front two shocks with the original LR shocks ~ and replacing the back shocks when there time is done. Or sucking it up and replacing all 4 shocks with bilstein shocks? As I understand I can not put bilstein's in the front and not the back as the shock absorption will be unequal? Does anyone have Bilstein shocks? And is their performance worth going ahead and changing all four of my shocks?

Change all to the Bilsteins. It made a huge difference in the handling of my 94. I bought mine from www.shox.com. They have very good prices.

The front and rear shocks are different. You can't swap them anyway. And you can put whatever shocks you want to on different axles. But on the same axle, you need a matched pair.

The Bilsteins are better than stock. Some some a LOT better. I've run stock, OME, and Bilstein, and for my driving I like the Bilsteins best. If you do a lot of offroad driving, I'd suggest the OME HD.

Yes, the performance of either Bilstein or OMEs is worth buying all 4. I wouldn't suggest doing it any other way. Don't worry about shock absorbtion. That's bogus info whereever you got it from.

They only problem I have with my Bilstein shocks is that they are too short for my lift. I should've gotten the longer ones.

BTW, I like the handling of the Bilsteins.

I purchased mine from GBR.

So, if my two front shocks are shot, I can go ahead and replace them with Bilstein's and hold off with replacing the back shocks, leaving the originals on, until necessary?

I am also running Bilstein's and OME HD springs. I just added these and I am very happy with the performance of the shocks. They suck up terrain very well, and are a bit softer than other aftermarket shocks.

I put 4 new Bilsteins on my 96 and it made a huge difference. I especially like the performance on washboard roads at high speeds, which we have a lot of out here. I would go for all 4 at once.

I use bilsteins on my 95 disco and find them to be a huge improvement on the originals. The ride is less rolly on the road and hard knocks off road
are better absorbed.
Definitely worth it!

May I recommend the RS9000 adjustable rancho's. For on road i stiffen it up a little, but offroad make the axles really flex by dialing them way down. there's a HUGE difference between stiff and soft in the shocks, you can tailor them to however you like your ride!

Yea Paul! I know how you feel, but you've been spoiled. Damn engineers. Everyone can't afford double bypass custom valved shocks to REALLY make a difference.

I'd love to have a set of 7100 Steins on the disco! Got them on the Jeep and it feels like a trophy truck over the bumps.. Plus they let me flex like crazy!!!!
Rancho RS9000XYZ ABC's work pretty good! For now..
Keep your reciept so when you wear them out you can get new ones!!!!
I'd be interested to try the new Pro Comp Mono tube adjustable Resevoir shocks though..
