Everyone: Here is the latest on our Winter Expedition.
Meeting Points:
Early meeting at Land Rover Asheville at 8:00 Saturday morning, February 1, 2003. Go to their website LandRoverAsheville.com for directions.
Final meeting at Wal-Mart, 1230 East Main Street, Sylva, NC 28779 at 9:30 Saturday morning. Directions from Asheville area:
I-40 West to Exit 27 (US-19/US-23 toward Waynesville).
US-23 to Exit 85 at Sylva (US-23 Business toward Cullowhee).
Left on NC-107.
Wal-Mart on right about .5 miles.
Sunday Meeting for Hurricane Creek trail ride: Rest stop on I-40 West (near milepost 12 or so) at 9:30 Sunday morning, February 2.
CAMPING/LODGING: Sorry, but I could not find a suitable campground nearby that is open in the winter, and trailside camping on Caney Fork is not allowed. So camping/lodging is on your own. I am staying at the Comfort Inn in Sylva (ComfortInn.com). Their rates are around $69 per night. Someone suggested the Balsam Mountain Inn located between Sylva and Waynesville (BalsamInn.com).
Everyone should bring their own lunch to eat on the trails. Dinner Saturday evening is on your own, but you are welcome to join me for some local cuisine somewhere in Sylva. |
