Does anyone know if the back black vinyl panels (back corners) of a RR Classic can be repared/replaced? If so, is this something that can be done at home or any ideas who can do this?

Thanks.

Michael

You can probably do this at home. What I would do if find a RRC that is being parted out, then remove the panels yourself. That way you know exactly what's involved in removing them from your truck.

I use proffesional vinyl treatment(Mequiers??) once a year to keep black appearance. The stuff you buy at the store tends to turn white when exposed to water outdoors.

I them on my 88 RRC, It was not a major chore but it took awhile. There not hard to remove be careful removing the inner nuts the trim can crack if its old like mine did. You can buy the material from any automotive trim shop or take a trip to the local automotive fabric supply , I used some 3m spray adhesive and new black exterior grade vinyl get the good stuff its not that much but the first time id did it I used the cheep stuff and it looke like a K-Mart special The hardest part was cleaning the old panel. Its aluminum and for a clean look you should strip all the old adhesive off, If you have a pneumatic air tool and 3m scotch bright discs not a problem....

After I did it I was kicking around the idea of having those sprayed with Rhino Liner or Line X type material The vinyl looks good for a while but armor the sun and trail pinstripe ate mine up after a few seasons. IMO I think the spray on stuff will look better and last longer, on my Disco Im getting the lower rockers sprayed and Im kicking around getting the hood blackout area done also

Also some UK companies sell a fiberglass replacement then have it sprayed to match Lots of options to get creative or patch the holes with a DiscoWeb sticker

How about painting the panel the same color as the Rangie? I think I'm gonna try this.

I removed my "D" pillars, stripped the vinyl, and spent a great deal of time carefully cleaning them up to remove the factory adhesive (which is stout!) You have to be carful as the panels are thin aluminum, and bend/dimple easily. I then primed and painted them to match my truck. They have held up pefectly, and I get a lot of comments on them. Most people just realize "something is different, but what??" Take a look at my pictures under Range Rover (Kevin Bowers), and you can see how they look. I may end up doing the "A", "B" and " C" pillars to match as well. I had to do a little filling/prep prior to paining, but not that bad. Let me know if you want some close up pics. Best of luck!

I've had good luck just painting them with black vinyl upholstery dye. It's lasted years. The vinyl paint/dye I used does not work on plastic ventilation grill though.

Kevin, I like the Rangie!

I see you have a fold and tumble seat in the back, am I correct?

I'm working on a tray for the cargo area that will accomodate a Quickair2 compressor, air tank, power inverter, fans to cool off the compressor, supports for spare parts like trailing arms and driveshafts, etc...

Nice RR you have their.

John,

The pannel is a bit thin to remount and will leave a gap along the seal. I tried it first. A good sheet metal shop gould make one out of thicker plate but the vinyl seemed a less expensive route.

Thanks for the tip Dee. I'll try and locate some vinyl to repair it.
