My Disco (80K miles) started doing something strange about a few days ago. When ever I excelerate it sounds as if the radiator fan spins faster creating a jetlike roar. At an idle the vehicle sounds normal. The fluids all are full, the oil is changed regularly. I have experienced no performance issues, overheating, nor does the tach show any uneven idle, any idea where the extra roar might be coming from?

Chris, does it go away or not?

if not,it may be fan clutch ready to seize.
the little bitch is known to disintegrate and send the fan flying through the hood (on the RRC, at least).

The temp here is around 40'F. The noise seems to settle down at idle, but whips up when I am giving it gas. I agree it does sound bad ass, but I an concerned about bigger issues.

Yep believe me I have first hand experience with the dam thing shooting bits and pieces through the hood, a quick check tomorrow before you start it up pop the hood and spin the fan. If it's cold it should spin freely if it is seized you will most likely need to replace the vicious...
