Driving the Disco('95)home tonight I hit a NYC pothole and the dash lights came on and she stalled. The pothole wasn't deep enough to make the enertia switch go off so I don't think it's that. It started right up after, then everytime I hit a bump in the road the same thing would happen. What the fuck??? I finally pulled over and checked the terminals on the battery, they were clean and tight. Then I checked the alternator, looked ok. Double checked the recently installed 8mm magnecor wires, they seem to be on good but I pushed them where they connect to the distributor cap. Anyway, I got back in the truck and drove home without any more problems. Now I don't know if I should worry or not??? Any ideas??? I seem to remember reading that some people were having a hard time with 8mm and or 8.5mm Magnecors fitting, could this be the culprit? I'm also experiencing a constant check engine light, and when I checked the code under the seat it translates into a stepper motor problem, even after having changed the stepper motor!!! Thanx for any help guys, if it weren't for this site I probably would've ran this fucking truck into a wall by now!!! Why the hell do I love this piece of shit sooo much! LOL

Sounds like a loose connection that kills the ignition. Jiggle the ignition switch while driving to see if it cuts out. 5 pounds of keys hanging on the ring? Corrosion in an electrical connector to the ignition system? Pop apart connectors to check for green or white oxidation inside and spray contacts with WD-40. Intermittant problems are a bitch. Luck when you hit it. By all means, stay away from the Poconos, we have potholes every 10 feet now.

I have had a hell of a time with the connectors to my fuel cut off interia switch. You may want to see if that has shorted, or is burnt in any way. I finally had to bypass mine. Best of luck

Make sure the connection for the wiring harness to the ignition amplifier (on the side of the distributor) is properly seated. Mine came loose and caused me an $80 tow bill. Pushed down on it and the truck started right up.

Geoff:
His '95 Disco has the ignition amplifier up next to the radiator support.

Intermitent problems are a bitch

Paul, you're not kidding! LOL
Today the problem hasn't occured all day. Great idea to check the weight of the keychain w/keys though, I would've never thought of that! Unfortunately I don't think that's the case cuz I've only got two keys on there and they don't weigh much.

Scott, that's also a great idea, that's makes alot of sense. It kinda felt like an electrical wire making bad contact then making good contact again. A couple of times it seemed to cut off and the dash lights would come on then they'd go off and the truck would resume.

Geoff, still yet another great idea, I noticed before that it does look kinda beat up.

Thanks for all your help, I appreciate you guys taking the time to answer. This sucks because I've been looking forward to taking her on some trails soon. Haven't been on a trail in about two months! I'll check all these out and keep ya posted. Thanks again and don't forget to root for my J E T S.

How 'bout going back and hitting that same pothole again? Maybe it'll fix it.:)

Paul that's the scary part is that it seems to be already fixed. I don't know if I've already done something to fix it or if it just went away by itself. I've never heard of anything going away by itself, and I didn't do much, so I'm sorta nervous.

The problem is that it hasn't seen the trail in 2 months. It needs that mud/water/dirt combo to hold oil in and provide a ground path.

LOL... Oliver, I think you're right! Man this work thing really gets in the way of life sometimes! If I get a rooftop tent and live in it would I still be considered homeless??? Just a thought.
