I have a 96 Discovery. When driving on dry pavement and turning (fairly sharp) it sometimes "pops or jerks" from the tires.( not just clicking like worn cv joints) It feels like the 4wd might be binding up. I have shifted in and out of diff lock to make sure it is in unlock. Is there a way to check if it is really unlocked. Is this a normal thing with full-time 4wd? I don't want to damage anything merely driving it to work!!! |

Definitely sounds like the CDL is locked. My RRC used to be difficult to get the CDL unlocked. Try shifting it back in forth in both the hi and low gears and shifting the main box in and out off "N" and "D". Driving around with the CDL locked on pavement could cause your drive train to bind. -John |

If you jack up one side of the car, and turn one of the wheels, if the other one turns then the CDL is locked. You may need to apply some resistance to the other wheel though to be sure about this. |

Thanks, I will check it out. How long driving it this way before it does damage and what breaks? |

Depending on the traction of the wheel and how much enegry you build up on a tight turn. Could be immediate. Bind and snap! |
