Okay, I suspected that my 96 Disco was in diff lock as it would "pop at tires" around turns, but no light 4wd on dash. I moved the diff lock selector in & out and now the light is on and won't go off! I am driving around with diff locked. How can I get it unlocked? I want to do it myself instead of shop if possible. Any advice would help.

Well if you have to go much longer with it locked pull a drive shaft so you don't screw to much up under there.

is it only the light that is on for diff lock or is the selector stuck? if only the light, try backing up in a strait line until it goes off.

The Selector is in unlocked, high, but it is driving in locked, high. I can move the selector to all positions fairly easy, and it (transfer case) does change from low and high properly, just won't come out of locked to unlocked. (even though the selector does).

Just crawl underneath, disconnect the lever arm, throw a 13mm socket on top of the t-case, and try and turn it by hand so it is unlocked. Your linkage is probably bent. If you can't move it with a socket than you either have serious windup or somethings busted inside.

My site has some pictures on it that may help you.

Well, I finally got the light off, backed up quite a distance. Thanks for all the suggestions. I am now leaning to thinking front diff problems as my CV joints and diff lock seem ok. How hard is it to switch out front diff?
